2bed/1bath apartment near Boboli Gardens, Florence WhenFebruary 2008, 3 nights LocationThe apartment is on the ground floor of a two storey house, ideally situated on the other side of the River Arno in Florence, the Oltrarno as the district is called. It is in a very quiet lane in a very quiet part of Florence about 15 minutes by taxi from the station. The location is lovely. Large windows give views over gardens and houses with the amazing sight of the old walls of the city just metres from the apartment. There is one couple living upstairs so the noise is minimal and the lane is traffic free with no noise of cars or motorbikes - a really peaceful location. Nearby AmenitiesDuring the day you can easily walk to get groceries, coffee or other necessities. The walk is through a park beside the Institute of Art and beside the Boboli Gardens. The exit is by the Porta Romana which leads directly to the Ponte Vecchio and thus to the centre of Florence. There are local coffee shops and tabacchi to buy bus tickets. The walk into town is a good 20 minutes so the local bus is perfect. It is a quick and reliable service taking you straight to the Duomo and other areas for shopping and sightseeing. There is a supermarket in the Via Romana which does not close at lunchtime and has a good selection of produce for stocking up. The House/ApartmentThe apartment is the ground floor of a two storey house which is attached to the neighbouring property. It is approached by a few steps with an iron handrail leading to the wooden front door. The internal layout is ideal for a vacation. There are neighbours upstairs and next door, but it is such a peaceful and pleasant location that at no time were we disturbed by noise from those around us. There is a very comfortable sitting room with sofas and good lighting, a dining table and four chairs. There is TV and DVD usage and a radio/CD player. There is a bedroom with a double bed, which looks on to the patio and a twin bedded room with an aspect to the front of gardens and the city wall. The comfort level is very high. GardenThere is a most attractive terrace, which is private. It has a table and four chairs for eating outside and leads directly from the kitchen. Our visit was in February but we had coffee outside one day and enjoyed the peaceful and pleasant aspect of the paved area with greenery in abundance in the flowerbed. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment is really comfortably furnished. There are two settees in the living area along with a dining table and four chairs. The furnishings are in toning colours with pinks and greens the main focus. It is very attractive. The windows are large with wooden shutters. The ceilings are high and there is a good feeling of spaciousness. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and the linens fresh. The double bedroom has a bedspread in pink and white. The twin room has blue and white covers. The rooms are simply but attractively furnished with plenty of cupboard space. The lighting is good with bedside lights for easy reading. KitchenThe kitchen is very well equipped. There is everything you might need; a large refrigerator, a microwave and oven. The gas hob is simple to operate and there are plenty of utensils, crockery, tea and coffee pots. There is a table and chairs. The room is bright and well painted. There is a door leading directly to the terrace outside. It would be easy to prepare full meals for four or more people. Problems or BonusesIt was even better than anticipated from the description. Agency and Representatives (and price)The on site person was most helpful, explaining the workings of everything fully. Her English was excellent and she was friendly and extremely welcoming. The agency could not have been more efficient. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? The location and the charm and level of comfort of the apartment were ideal. Francesca, the on site contact, was so helpful in naming some local restaurants. I would stay here again without hesitation. I would recommend it to anyone as the apartment is charming, in a lovely location and extremely comfortable. Things to do in this areaThere are so many places to visit in Florence. The Uffizi is a wonderful place to see and the Duomo outstanding. We used the Dorling Kindersley guide book and also the restaurants recommended by Lisa Byrne at Italy Perfect. The on site contact, Francesca, could not have been more helpful in naming some local restaurants. Our stay was only for three nights, so we both ate out and cooked some meals in the apartment.
