apartments on Via Canonica in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna WhenFeb 22-28, 2008, 6 nights LocationThe apartment is conveniently located near Via Rizzoli near the Bologna University on Via Canonica, a small street. The apartment is on the third Italian floor in an apartment building which contains other apartments offered by Views of Italy. There are wonderful views of the roof tops of Bologna. The street, although small does have a fair amount of traffic and sounds can echo in the "canyon" created by other buildings, mostly apartments. Nearby AmenitiesVery convenient location near restaurants and food stores. The section of Bologna with numerous food stores, delis, bakeries, etc. is three or four blocks. Numerous restaurants are located within walking distance. In fact there is no need for a car and it would be a detriment because of parking and traffic. The House/ApartmentThe apartment is in good shape and there is little if any noise from other tenants. The only noise is a night from occasional cars, cycles and party-goers, probably students. There are about eight apartments in the building. The apartment has a bedroom with twin beds, another bedroom (the former living room) with a double bed and a single bed; an entry hall, a sitting/eating area with a color television and kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine; the bathroom is quite adequate with a nice shower over the bathtub. GardenNo garden or outside sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasVery clean apartment with adequate if not luxurious furniture. Pretty much as described by the agency. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were comfortable, plenty of towels as the bathroom was OK for the four of us. KitchenWe did little in the way of meal preparation other than breakfast and cheese/salumi with wine snacks. However the kitchen seems to be fine and adequate. Problems or BonusesNo everything pretty much as the agency noted. Agency and Representatives (and price)Dealt with Views of Italy by e-mail, in particular with Sally who was quite pleasant to deal with and timely in her responses to our questions, etc. Their office is located in England so language was not a problem. The information provided on the website fairly reflected the actual as we experienced it. We arrived before a local representative was at the apartment so we picked up the keys at a nearby cafe with no problems. The cost for the four of us was about $1070 for the six days at the end of February. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely recommend the apartment. There is no elevator so be prepared to climb the four flights of stairs to the apartment. This apartment is well located to walk to just about all the main sites in Bologna, it's 100 meters or so to the twin towers so very central. Things to do in this areaAs mentioned above, you can walk to just about everything in Bologna - the university museums, the teatro communale, Piazza Maggiore, all sorts of churches, restaurants, etc. Can even walk, if so inclined, to the train station for day trips to Modena, Parma, Ravenna, etc. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
