Review 3408: Sleep in Italy, Largo Santa Cristina Di Svezia

Review by opaldog from MA

1bed/1bath apartment in Trastavere, Rome

March 15-21, 2008, 1 week

The apartment was in the northern part of Trastevere in Rome. The main building was on Via della Lungara, but the entrance for the apartment was on Via Corsini. The location was very good. The building was right next to the Botanical Garden and the on the far corner was located the Corsini Gallery. To the left of the building was the gateway to the military police barracks. It was private except for the traffic. We got used to the steady stream of foot traffic and vehicles going in and out of the gates of the police barracks, some people might not like this.

Nearby Amenities

Every morning we walked around the corner to the Cafe Settimiama for our cappuccino. There were many pizzerias, trattorias, restaurants located in the neighborhood. The closest decent sized grocery store was on Viale di Trastevere, the Standa in the basement of the Oviesse department store. It was a leisurely 10 to 15 minute walk from the apartment. There were other stores in the neighborhood that offered food, e.g. produce, cheese, meats, bakeries. We had all of our restaurant meals in neighborhood places. We were not far from Piazza Trilussa, where we could cross the river on Ponte Sisto. In the other direction it was about a 10 minute walk to the Vatican.

The House/Apartment

The building was said to have been lived in at one time by the Queen of Sweden, Cristina. It was an old building that extended over to via della Lungara. We walked through the garage area and into the courtyard, which was very nice. Our end of the building was quiet, except for the police traffic. The apartment was on the ground floor, but was a few steps up so the windows were over the heads of people walking by. The living room and the bedroom had large windows with exterior shutters that could be closed. The apartment had entry into a hallway with the kitchenette area facing the front door. The floors were wood. The living room was to the right of the entry and was nicely furnished with IKEA furniture. There was a small round table for eating and a couch, coffee table, and comfortable chair. There was a TV. We did not watch it as the reception was poor, however, we were better for not watching it. There was a radio/CD player in the bedroom, which we used. There were books on the shelves, which we read from time to time. The bedroom was a decent size and the bed was comfortable. The ceilings were very high. The bathroom was off of the bedroom and was also a decent size with a stall shower and a bidet. All floors were wood. The apartment was clean and comfortable.

You can view the property directly: Largo Santa Cristina di Svezia.

There was no area for sitting outside.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in good shape. It was classic IKEA and very comfortable. The apartment was clean and well equipped.

The bed was queen sized and comfortable. The bed had a comforter with cover. The bathroom was clean and a decent size.

The kitchenette consisted of a sink with refrigerator underneath behind a closet door. There was a stove top and a microwave. There was a tea kettle and an Italian espresso pot. There were enough plates, cups and wine glasses for two people. There were pots and pans, but we did not cook, just heated up and ate lots of cheese, bread, and salami with wine.

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises. The pictures on the website were representative of the apartment.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

This was the second time we have used Sleep in Italy and were very pleased with the service. We would definitely recommend them and will use them again. Our dealings with Giulia were very good.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes I would stay here again and recommend it.

Things to do in this area

Many restaurants. Aristocampo Pannini shop in Via della Scala was delicious. Miraggio Club on Via della Lungara was a nice place for a relaxed dinner. Valzani on via del moro was a great place for candies of all kinds. There was so much more that I didn't try, but would like to when I return.
