Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3410: Roman Reference, Campo de' Fiori - Via Arco Degli Acetari (#105)
2bed/1bath townhouse near Campo de' Fiori, Rome
March 4 - 11, 2008, 1 week
The apartment is in the Campo de Fiori district of Rome. It was in a tiny cul de sac. It was quite noisy, as the outside of the apartment is very popular with tourists and locals for picture taking and also the cul de sac is popular for people to hang out and carry on conversations into the wee hours of the night. We did see some drug dealing at the entrance to the cul de sac.
Very close to all amenities bars, coffee, wine bars, restaurants and grocery stores.
The building was extremely historical and you see the outside of the building on many postcards, magnets as it is very picturesque. There are several apartments in the building and some of the lower ones are used for storage for people whom sell at the market in the Campo de Fiori so is noisy early in the morning and late at night.
No outside sitting area.
The furniture was okay. The apartment was clean however there were centipedes in the lower bedroom. The apartment has three levels, which is a consideration as they are separated by a metal spiral staircase that one must have shoes on to navigate. The owner has a lot of "stuff" in the apartment. So it is cluttered and the middle level is where the kitchen is, which would be your only gathering spot. So, it is not for a lot of people as is crowded with only one small couch and two small chairs besides the kitchen table.
The bedrooms are small as are most bedrooms in Rome. The bathroom is on the lower level and remember this is a three-level apartment. So, the bathroom is inconvenient as it is constantly entered through the bedroom on the lower level. Privacy is not a plus in this apartment for the bedrooms.
The kitchen was very usable as plenty of good pots and pans for cooking.
Problems or Bonuses
I was surprised at the the clutter in the apartment and the difficulty in getting around up to the apartment with very narrow and steep stairs and than the fact the apartment is a tri-level. The levels are very small and unfortunately is difficult to enjoy others as you feel you are constantly intruding in someones space. Yes, the apartment is very scenic from the outside but from the inside not so.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency was okay. The representative whom dropped the keys off was not overly helpful with information and basically he was just there to drop the keys. He didn't know how to work the washer and was irritated that we had arrived during his lunch break. We paid €1295 and that to me was very overpriced.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
No, I wouldn't stay here again and I wouldn't recommend it.
Things to do in this area
Our best coffee and croissants in the morning was at the Bar Hermitage just about three blocks away.
