2bed/2bath apartment in Savannah, Georgia

Forsythe Garden Suite is located in Savannah, Georgia, just a block from the incredibly beautiful Forsythe Park. This apartment takes up the main floor of the stately, three storey Forsythe Park House and opens onto a lovely landscaped side and back yard, complete with a miniature Forsythe Park fountain murmuring softly in the back yard!

I love the area, so close to the park and located on a quiet side street. I occasionally heard the people in the upstairs suite, as they were in town for their wedding and the entire family of both bride and groom stayed in the Carriage House and the upstairs two floors. It was a busy weekend at Forsythe House!

Nearby Amenities

Kroger's Grocery is a short walk of a few blocks across the park, and I went there several times for excellent fruits and veggies, a variety of good cheese and dairy products. Nice store, great staff!

I walked downtown every day, passing many cafes, restaurants, English-style pubs and tea houses, so places to sit down for a coffee and a bite to eat are plentiful in the area, although not right next door.

The House/Apartment

Forsythe House is a historic house, restored by Tammy Jo of Luxury Living Savannah. According to Tammy, "This 1871 Victorian masterpiece has recently undergone an Award Winning Historic Restoration. The painstaking rejuvenation of the expansive side yard back to its original splendor has resulted in one of Savannah's largest and finest private gardens. The garden is known for its impressive wall of bamboo, towering fountain and indigenous plantings. This unique and magical side yard is perfect for a small gathering or special event."

For the most part, the apartment is quiet and peaceful, restful and easy as peach pie to live in. Entering the front of the yard through a front doorway, there is a bricked walkway to the front door of the apartment. Then, a front door, the apartment opens directly into the living room. Street-side of this room, the huge master bedroom with king bed, private bath with a delicious stone shower and walk-in closet take up the entire width of the apartment. Towards the back of the home, there is a second bedroom with queen bed and a second private bath with tub and shower. Further on, past this area is a gorgeous kitchen and dining area, with full kitchen facilities.

Outside the apartment, there is a private patio area specifically for this apartment. Beyond that, there is a stunning back yard with exceptionally beautiful sitting areas around a beautiful fountain.

We didn't use the sitting area and patio very much because we were quite content to be inside the wonderful high-ceilinged home, visiting and reading.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is gorgeous ... antiques galore and some top-quality reproduction furniture fills the home with warmth and elegance. It is all in perfect condition and immaculately cared-for.

The apartment is as immaculate as I've seen in some time, so the housekeeping staff are obviously doing a fine job, as I've been known to re-clean a rental when I arrive, and I didn't touch a thing in this one!

We had more than enough seating for everyone, as well as for the guests who came for breakfast and a Pilates mat class one morning!

The beds are fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I slept like a baby. I'd be hard pressed to find better quality beds in any of the rentals where I've stayed. The bedrooms are furnished with beautiful antique and reproduction furniture in impeccable condition.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom and both bathrooms were perfect for us. The bath off the master bedroom has a huge hand-crafted stone shower with dual shower heads and controls. The vanity is loaded with drawers for storage and ample counter space for my 'stuff.'

Tammy Jo provides one of the best kitchens I've ever been lucky enough to use ... the appliances are all new, the dishes, pots and pans, wine glasses and cutlery are plentiful and in excellent condition. There is even a set of SHARP kitchen knives and a corkscrew!

I loved preparing meals in the kitchen and even invited people over a few times and cooked for them. It was a perfect kitchen for me.

Problems or Bonuses

  • How truly beautiful the apartment was. When I arrived, I spent about five minutes walking from room to room saying, "Wow! I mean, look at this! Wow!"
  • How well equipped the apartment was ... everything that we needed was there and plentiful, as well.
  • How clean, clean, clean the apartment was. A superb treat, for sure!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Tammy Jo couldn't have been kinder to me, from the initial contact to the final phone conversation we had just before I came home from Savannah. She went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable and well-cared-for, every single second of the time.

I had an issue with the Internet not being reliable and within minutes, Tammy Jo and her staff figured out how to solve that little problem.

The on-site person was as helpful as could be, bringing my apartment phone to me right after I arrived and helping me with the Internet problem.

The apartment was so much better than I expected and so much more beautiful than the photos showed on the company website.

The rates are posted on Tammy Jo's website and are accurate for my stay.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay here in a Savannahian heartbeat ... no doubt about it. I loved this location, this apartment and this rental agency. I cannot say enough good things about Tammy Jo's helpfulness and willingness to accommodate my requests. She knows the meaning of the words 'excellent client care' without a doubt!

Things to do in this area

This area of Savannah is loaded with wonderful things to see and do. It is a perfect location to stay in, when enjoying the city of Savannah. Forsythe Park is only a block away, The Mansion is just across the park from the apartment and there are several good restaurants, cafes, gift shops and art galleries in the neighbourhood.

Mercer Williams House is on the corner of Monterey Square, a block past the end of Forsythe Park. There is a gift shop located in the Carriage House at the back of the main home.

Try it, you'll love it here! Tammy Jo makes staying in Savannah as smooth as butter and as sweet as those pralines sold on River Street!
