Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 344: Summer in Italy, Villa Smeraldo
3bed/2bath villa near Amalfi, Campania
September 21 - 28, 2002, one week
Villa is located along the Amalfi Coast. It is right on the Sea and is very private. The best way to describe the view from the Villa is Spectacular. The area was also very quiet.
The Villa has a Petro station across the road that sells, Coffee, Drinks and Pastries. We had to drive to Amalfi for groceries but that was only 5 kilometers away and there was always parking and a short walk to the supermarket and other shops.
The Vllla appears to be many years old and has a quaint atmosphere to it. There are other Villas on either side but this Villa is very private. It offers three balconies that can be used for sunbathing and dining.
There are many garden areas that are private. A small sitting area looked out on the sea and shoreline. The flowers were very colorful and drew a large number of hummingbirds for our viewing pleasure. There is also a pool that is very private and close to sea level. There are also steps that take you to a ladder that leads you directly into the sea.
The furniture was in good shape and comfortable. There were only two of us staying at this time so the number of pieces of furniture was not a problem. If there were more than four person staying at the villa the dining room table would not be adequate. It could only seat four persons. However there is a table with chairs on the balcony directly in front of the dining room. For the most part the villa was clean. There are a number of areas that could use some new paint. There are also many antique paintings as well as antigue furniture.
The bathrooms were adequate but the water pressure was very weak. You could not use the water in the kitchen and the bathroom at the same time. The beds in the room we stayed in were adequate but not what you would call comfortable. Mattress's were too soft to support the person's body weight.
Yes, we were able to cook our meals, however there were no modern amenities. Such as Toasters, Blenders, Microwave Etc.
Problems or Bonuses
We were pleasantly surprised to find, fruit, wine and a basket of staples for our use.
We were disappointed that we could not use the pool due to the fact that the pump hose that filled the pool developed leaks and therefore could not be used to fill the pool.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I can not say enough about the support and information that Mr. Trotta conveyed to us. If all agencies were as thorough as Mr. Trotta's we as travelers would not have any problems
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes we would stay here again and yes we would recommend this to our friends. I suspect as Americans we are used to many comforts that were not present but the view and the culture made up for them.
Things to do in this area
This would take a book to write. A few of the things we did were, Visiting the Emerald Grotto, Dining at a number of restaurants, seeing all the sites in Amalfi. To list a few: the Cathedral, the fishing pier, the boats, the shops and mostly the people. Our favorite restaurant was at the Emerald Grotto in Cona Dei Marini. There are also many tour boats that can take you any number of excursions to nearby Sites, I.e. Capri, Positano, Sorrento or just touring the coast.
