Review 3449: Italy-Accom, Apartment Donizetti

Review by DLS from Derby from UK

2bed/2bath apartment near Spanish Steps, Rome

April 7th-11th 2008, three nights

Our apartment was in the heart of Rome, very near to The Spanish Steps, but walking distance to every historic sight in Rome. The apartment was located near to excellent shopping facilities, everything from the local grocery store to high street shops to the exclusives, such as Prada and Hugo Boss.

Nearby Amenities

As well as the grocery stores nearby, there were copious amounts of excellent restaurants.

The House/Apartment

We felt as if we were staying in a building with the locals. It was great. Our neighbours were Italian, but there were some American people staying upstairs. We know this because we met in the lift occasionally, because once in our apartment we couldn't hear anyone else in the block.

The street below, although busy, could not be heard from our rooms. A gentle hum during the day and practically nothing at night. Quite remarkable for saying that we were in the heart of the city.

You can view the apartment directly: Apartment Donizetti.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The sofas were very welcoming after a hard day's exploring! The kitchen/ dining/ sitting room was comfortable with everything close at hand. the apartment was clean and well looked after.

The sleeping facilities were great. There was a double room with en-suite and an adjoining room with two single beds which also had an en-suite. There was also a great walk in wardrobe, so space was plentiful.

My only complaint about the whole apartment was the mattress on the double bed. It was quite uncomfortable, I prefer something softer!

We used the kitchen for toast/breakfast and cups of tea but ate out most of the time.

There was adequate crockery and cutlery and there was an under counter fridge, a microwave, hob and an oven. Everything was clean.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

When looking through the apartments on offer I had no idea what I was looking at. I didn't know Rome, so chose the area at random and my only criteria was that there were enough beds for me and my family. The photos of the apartment on the website make it look smaller than it is and I feel, don't do it justice, so it was a lovely surprise to see the apartment for real. And the area we chose was perfectly central, making it an excellent choice all round.

We booked the taxi service, which was a little on the expensive side, but was worth it because there was someone to collect us from the airport and drop us off outside the front door of our apartment. The company representative was there within minutes and went through everything we needed to know in perfect English. Upon departure, our taxi arrived on time and took us back to the airport.

The whole trip was completely stress free, and compared to some city breaks I've had, this one came top for organisation and efficiency of our travel company.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would absolutely recommend anyone to use this company to help with a trip to Rome.

The Apartment Donizetti was perfect for us, and despite the bed, I think I would stay in it again! However, I would also have every confidence in trying any one of the other apartments on offer; if they're all to the standard of 'Donizetti', they'll all be great!

Things to do in this area

This apartment location is within walking distance of all of the historic sights in Rome, so perfect for a sight-seeing trip, but also perfectly located for shopping. Who could ask for more?
