3bed/2bath apartment in Trastevere, Rome

April 19-22 2008

Apartment Riverside is located in the Trastevere section of Rome along the Tiber River. It's large living room window looks out on the river. This apartment is on the second floor of a well locked apartment building, which has an elevator, although the steps are wide and easy to negotiate. Although we used public transportation for most of our trip, I recommend having a car bring you to the apartment the first time since it is not easy to locate initially. Once you know the area, you should have no problem finding it.

Nearby Amenities

Apartment Riverside is within easy walking distance(within five to 10 minutes) to groceries, shops, restaurants and gelaterias! We found it to be centrally located and walked to the Vatican (a long walk for those who may prefer public transportation), historic Rome (right across the river), and most of the must do sites.

The House/Apartment

Apartment Riverside is located in an unremarkable building, which is difficult at first to locate. Large wooden doors open to an open, well lit entrance with a second set of locked doors locked doors. The steps and walls in the building are marble or some type of quarry stone. The apartment itself is a bit dark upon entry, but much more spacious than it appears in pictures on the site. The bedrooms and large living/dining room are the highlight of the apartment. They are bright, clean and spacious. Clean towels are provided in each bedroom. The beds are comfortable and each has a window. There is a hallway which leads to a small, but clean kitchen. The kitchen has necessary utensils, glasses and cooking ware. The fridge is small, but adequate. There is a washing machine, although we did not use it. We did not see a coffee pot and had to use instant, but coffee shops are nearby. For such a large apartment, the kitchen is unimpressive, but if you only plan to use it for breakfast food and snacks, this won't be a problem. If you want to do large meals, this might not be the place for you.

There are two bathrooms, one with a shower. Both are unremarkable, but clean. As an American, the stand up shower was greatly appreciated!

The apartment is in a quiet residential building.

Apartment Riverside is strictly a city apartment. There is no outside sitting area or pool.

Problems or Bonuses

The biggest surprise was the size of the apartment. It is much more spacious than it appeared on the website. We were a bit surprised by how nice the entrance hallway in the building was. We were surprised by the stand up shower. The simplicity of the kitchen also surprised us. Again ... it is clean and fine, but not a kitchen if you want to do large full meals.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked this apartment online through Italy-Accom. We were very nervous about doing business this way, but read many reviews first. The agency's website is comprehensive and contains tons of links and information necessary to plan a successful trip. They do speak English. They even have an online chat, which I found extremely helpful. Their reviews of the apartment were spot on and not glossed over. I really felt like they wanted to provide us with a place to meet our needs and budget. I recommend that anyone dealing with them be very honest in what you are looking for. Tell them if you want a gorgeous place, a place in a certain area, or a clean place to just hang your hat.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a clean, roomy place for a good price with an excellent location. We were able to witness a tremendous lightning storm over the Tiber River from the comfort of the living room. I would not recommend it to someone looking for a luxury apartment. You have to know what your needs are to find a successful rental.

Things to do in this area

We enjoyed walking away from the river to a main street which runs parallel to the road the apartment is on. Make a right outside of the apartment and then make a right which winds back to the main street. This street has many shops, restaurants, etc. We had the best meal of our vacation (for the cheapest price!) at a little local place on the side street before the main drag. The name was Cosima Roma or Cucina Roma. The waiter was grouchy and almost rude, but by the time we left, he was much nicer. The food was outstanding, and his manner made us laugh at how he could get away with treating us that way. It actually added some spice to our trip.
