Review 3490: Owner, Villa Austen

Review by Peter C from NH

3bed/2bath house outside Lerici, Liguria

April 2008, one week

Villa Austen overlooks The Gulf of Poets/Lerici in Liguria. Its location is convenient to hiking the Cinque Terre as well as exploring in to the northern reaches of Tuscany. The views from this centuries old olive oil facility ("frantoio") are incredible!

Nearby Amenities

Lerici is only about a five-minute drive away. Shopping for food in a super-supermarket is within 15 minutes; dining at superb restaurants is within 15 minutes, also.

You need to rent a car while at Villa Austen. Shopping for groceries is either five minutes away (small grocery store) or 15 minutes away (HUGE grocery store).

The House/Apartment

Villa Austen is several hundred years old. It is in superb condition, is peaceful and secluded within a settled neighborhood; you would never know you had neighbors, since it is so quiet. The villa itself is beautiful and well appointed.

Beautiful sitting area outside the villa; it overlooks the gorgeous Gulf of Poets. At sunset, WOW!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Villa Austen was (is) in great shape. Dining room table seats at least eight. Very comfy!

The bedrooms were quiet, and the beds themselves nice and firm. Bathrooms beautifully tiled and designed. Hot water, enough for three showers back-to-back. There is even a fireplace for a romantic fire in the evening. Coffee (espresso!) in the morning on the deck overlooking the Gulf of Poets in comfortable outdoor furniture is a real treat.

The kitchen is beautifully outfitted with modern appliances and all the kitchen utensils one needs for fixing meals. Any cook would be happy to cook in this kitchen.

Problems or Bonuses

Truly peaceful. Nothing bad to report.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

I can honestly say it met and exceeded my expectations, as did the villa's rental agent Megan of Bella Vita Italia. She promptly and courteously answered all of my question via e-mail (there were MANY!), advised me about renting a car and recommended day trips for enjoying the area. I can't say enough good things about her. She's the best! (Please understand I am not related to or affiliated in any way with Megan; she really does a great job with regards to Villa Austen).

Pictures and descriptions on website for Villa Austen are very good; the experience there certainly goes beyond words and pictures.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely! Saying Villa Austen is a restful retreat is an understatement. Being there cleanses the brain. I would not hesitate in returning.

Things to do in this area

Hiking the Cinque Terre was fantastic. Easy to get to, unbelievable sites and towns. Eating at Locanda Miranda was the highlight of our trip. Best meal of my life!
