1bed/1bath apatment in Dorsoduro, Venice 
WhenMay 2008, 1 week ReviewWe were met at the apartment by Nicoletta, one of the owners, who spoke a little English but we found it easier to both speak in French! Anna her daughter speaks perfect English, which was helpful. The apartment was absolutely beautiful, lovely high timbered ceilings, ancient marble floors and a magnificent stone fireplace. We were a couple staying with my mother, so she had a pretty double bedroom to herself, whist we slept in the huge king size sofa bed in the living area. The living area was enormous so sleeping in there was no problem. There was also a little single bed in a pretty mezzanine room - you'd have to be fairly fit to climb up to it, but it was very pretty and had an attractive view. A small kitchenette provided all we needed, with fridge, dishwasher (a boon!), electric hob (aka stove top) and a small microwave/grill/oven. There was an enormous basket provided of biscuits, jams, Melba toast, etc. for our breakfasts, and in the refrigerator was orange juice and a bottle of sparkly! The shower room was great, with a bidet and a small washing machine. Although the apartment was on the first floor, it was no effort to climb (my mother was 82). The little balcony was a sunny spot to take an apero and a cool courtyard and private entrance made us feel very special. Campo Santa Margherita was a five minute walk and is our favourite square in Venice, really buzzing with bars, restaurants (a bit touristy) and students. There's a great fish market every weekday and we bought fresh sea bass and sardines - wonderful! A short hop to the vaporetto stop so really convenient for sightseeing and a beautiful quiet spot to return to in the evenings. Dorsoduro has to be the loveliest area. The owners were helpful above and beyond expectations - helping when we arrived when my mother's luggage didn't arrive at the airport and liaising with the airport when it was eventually delivered.
