Review 3548: Owner, Ideal Rome

Review by StandingRoomOnly from CA

1bed/1bath apartment near Spanish Steps, Rome

May 24 - May 30, 2008, 6 nights

The apartment was on the 5th floor (penthouse floor) of a building in the Spanish Steps area on the upscale shopping street Via del Babuino. It was a perfect location for walking to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Borghese Gallery and within easy walking distance of the Forum, Colosseum and other famous Roman sites.

Nearby Amenities

The nearest grocery store was only about four or five blocks away and had everything we needed to make meals in the apartment. There are also lots of restaurants to choose from nearby if you don't wish to eat-in.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was very well furnished, not shabby in the least. The apartment was peaceful, and had wonderful views of the city and rooftops. The windows are huge in this apartment and let in lots of light. Windows can be opened too to let in the breeze if you wish. On the days we used the air conditioning it worked very well, didn't have to wait long at all for the apartment to cool off.

There were only two other apartments on the 5th floor, noise wasn't a problem. Noise from the outside was minimal also car car honking every once in awhile was the extent of it. It's a very quiet area at night too because all the shops below shut down fairly early. The restaurants and busier areas are set away from this street, so you don't get the noise you would if you were near these other areas.

No garden or outside area, but the huge windows and view make up for no balcony.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in good shape and comfortable, and there were plenty of places to sit in the living room and dining room. The apartment was very clean.

The bed was comfortable. It was a cozy loft bedroom with everything we needed. The bedroom ceiling is at a slant, so if you are really tall you will need to watch your head. The bathroom worked well for my husband and I; there were enough towels and places to set out bathroom products.

The kitchen was very usable. Every utensil we needed was within reach and available. Pans and dishes were a good quality for our cooking purposes. Yes, the kitchen would work fine for cooking full meals; there was a stove also in the kitchen.

Problems or Bonuses

Bonuses: Owner left us a present; a full container of gelato -- very very good! It was the best we had while in Italy. The details in the apartment and what is included was refreshing from other places we've stayed. You can tell the owner wants the person staying to have a great experience and have different options of what to do while in the apartment (DVDs, chess set, magazines, etc). I appreciate when owners really go out of their way to make the apartment a special place to be, someplace that offers more than just "leftovers" or old things they didn't want at their own house.

No problems :) We enjoyed staying here and would stay again.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Guido was very friendly and helpful; he spoke English very well. The reality of the place actually surpassed out expectations. The pictures on the web site don't to the apartment justice, especially the large windows and the views.

Check out the site for prices. I think we paid a little over 100 a night. No matter what, it's a great deal for where you get to stay.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, I would recommend this apartment to others as well as my best friend. We will come back to stay here when in Rome again. I would err on the side of warning for people who are really tall though (if they don't like bending over) as the ceiling in the loft area where the bed is, is lower.

Things to do in this area

We went lots of places :) We walked all over the place in Rome so no specific recommendations right in the area. It's nice to people-watch at night on the Spanish Steps; I'd recommend that.
