Review 3551: Italy-Accom, Aria Romatica

Review by Bryan G from CA

2bed/1bath near Spanish Steps, Rome

May 2008, 4 nights

This apartment was just around the corner from the Spanish Steps. Also close to Plaza San Silvestro, a transit hub. The surrounding blocks have plenty of upscale shops and a range of restaurants. Metro stop is only a few blocks up.

Nearby Amenities

There is a large market a couple blocks south, so stocking the kitchen is easy. Restaurants and caffes are everywhere.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was at the top floor, but there was an elevator. About ten steps up to the elevator and then a few from the elevator to the door. I think one apartment on each of the six floors. Being on the top floor, there were great views out of the windows, and a large, usable patio that we enjoyed. The streets were pretty busy below, but the apartment was pretty quiet. It is in good shape, good windows for airflow, and air conditioners in the two bedrooms.

You can view the property directly: Aria Romantica.

The outside patio was spacious and nice, lined with potted plants. A large table with, I think, four chairs still left room for our 3-year old to play. The patio umbrella, however, was broken when we arrived.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was fine. There is a small table with three chairs on one wall. small TV and DVD player were there, but we could not get the sound to work on the DVD player. Sofa seemed a bit worn as well.

The queen and single beds were comfortable, but the sofa bed was not. We did not have enough blankets or pillowcases either (and never called it in to the agency). The bathroom was clean and worked fine, shower newish and small. Washing machine in the bathroom worked well.

The kitchen is long and narrow. Moderately stocked. We never cooked in here, so I didn't notice what might be missing.

Problems or Bonuses

One bad surprise: ants all over. After the second day we found a can of ant spray in the kitchen! The air conditioners in each bedroom were quiet and worked well. An elevator was another nice feature (for a change!)

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We were happy with the agency. All directions were clear, our contact met us promptly and allowed us to leave our bags in the apartment early. We paid 260 deposit and then 600 plus 50 cleaning fee on checking in. For four nights, which I think is okay for Rome. The mandatory cleaning fee was something I had overlooked on the booking form, and it was the only cleaning fee we paid on our trip, for the dirtiest apartment.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would not stay here again, at least not with four adults and a child.

Things to do in this area

This apartment was very close to both the Spanish steps and Trevi fountain. It was nice to be able to join the crowds in the evenings, but also to be able to visit these sites first thing in the morning, when you have the places almost to yourselves.
