2bed/2bath apartment near Spanish Steps, Rome WhenMay 2008, 3 nights LocationThis apartment is just off the Via del Corso near the Spanish Steps. Up a flight of 30 steep steps, the apartment is within five minutes walk of the Metro station Spagna. It is situated close to the church Santi Ambrogio e Carlo. Nearby AmenitiesThere are a couple of small supermarkets within five minute walk for any essentials. The streets running towards the Piazza Popolo offer plenty of eating choices ... there's even a McDonalds if that "rocks your boat." The House/ApartmentThe apartment has two bedrooms (a double and a twin) with two bathrooms and a kitchen/sitting area. The apartment was clean and there was a ready supply of hot water for showers. The layout was unusual (you get to the kitchen/seating area through the twin room) but adequate for our stay. There is a sister apartment across the way for a larger party. Facing onto the Via dl Corso, there is plenty going on and a fair bit of noise. Shutting the windows masks a lot of it but it may get very hot in the summer if you do that - earplugs? You can view the apartment directly: Apartment Ambrogio I. GardenThere's nowhere to sit out other than the public benches next to the church. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsWhilst the bathrooms were not the newest we've seen, everything worked. KitchenThe kitchen area has a fridge, microwave, hob and dishwasher if you want to prepare food rather than venturing out. Enough crockery and pans to rustle up pasta but would benefit from a prominent kettle ... we struggled with a pan until the final morning when we found a small one lurking at the back of a cupboard. Problems or BonusesWe thought the apartment was very good value for money. With teenagers in tow, it was better than a hotel as we could spread out and cook ourselves breakfast and snacks when we needed to. The location was ideal for the Spanish Steps and around five minutes from the Piazza Navona. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was very efficient. On arrival at Rome airport, we spoke to someone who spoke English and then met up with an English speaking maid at the apartment. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? For a family on a budget, we'd recommend this apartment. The furnishings and bathrooms are functional rather than elegant (the bathroom showers could do with re-tiling) but we felt it was very good value for money. Things to do in this areaMake sure you walk to Da Buffetto off the Piazza Navona - great value and superb pizzas. Bar 06 is just outside the apartment door.
