Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3577: Rentvillas, Villa Sebastiano
7bed/5bath in Sorrento, Campania
May 2008, 1 week
Located a 15 to 20 minute walk from the center of Sorrento, Italy. The villa is up a hill, that is a bit of a climb, but the views are incredible. It's only 10 to 15 minutes down the hill to town. From the villa you can see the town of Sorrento, the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius, and everything in between including some incredible mountain and Mediterranean views.
Just at the foot of the hill less than 10 minutes away is a grocery store, and a good wine shop called the Wine Corner.
The villa was very spacious and not cramped at all. Even with 15 people you could get lost or get social. It was very quiet except when we had all 15 sit down for dinner. The villa is well equipped with a kitchen and appliances, TV/stereo, etc.
You can view the property directly: Villa Sebastiano.
On the main floor there were two nice terraces overlooking the sea and town, and a nice big outdoor eating area in back, and a nice rooftop terrace, and also one off the master bedroom. Yes, this was nice inside and out.
The living areas were in good shape and well furnished.
Bedrooms and bathrooms were fine. Some bedrooms shared bathrooms but this was not a problem.
Kitchen was great. We ate in several times, but the real deal here is to get Giussepina, the caretaker to cook for you. We did this twice and it was like something right out of a movie. Great food and a memorable lifetime experience for all. She charges €150 plus the cost of ingredients. Well worth it.
Problems or Bonuses
Sorrento is not only a good base to see the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and Capri, it is a fun place that can stand on its own merit. My single sister-in-law met a nice Italian guy but that is another story.
The villa is very tough to find the first time, so if you rent it make sure you are absolutely clear on how to get there.
Some might complain about the uphill hike to the villa but my 75 year old mother did it two or so times a day.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Agency was great. Value was fantastic. I don't remember the exact price but it was well worth it.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes!! I would recommend this to others. Anyone taking 12 to 15 people to Italy should consider this spot. In fact, I am pretty sure we will rent this exact same villa again.
Things to do in this area
A good itinerary for a week would be to take a day trip on the ferry to Capri, a trip to Pompeii on the Circumvesuvius train, and a trip down the Amalfi coast on the bus, with Ravello as a must see. The rest of the time I would spend around Sorrento and relaxing at the villa. There are two great 1 1/2 hour round trip walks that start right behind the villa. One goes to Villa di Pollio and one goes to Marina di Puolo. You can swim in the sea at both spots. If you want to do any hiking in this area, get Landscapes of Sorrento by Julian Tippett for details.
For a good restaurant, we had a fantastic time at Delfino's in the old port, right under the villa on the coast. This is a very affordable yet high quality restaurant. For a Bar-Disco-Karaoke -- Bagatelle American Bar just off Piazza Tasso is a blast.
