4bed/2bath house near Cortona, Tuscany East

When

May 24 - June 7 2008, Two weeks

Location

There is hardly anything more that you would want from accommodations in Eastern Tuscany that Dardano (Cortona/ Camucia) could not provide. Imagine a setting in the middle of an agricultural plain, surrounded by red poppies and sunflowers. Prepare for a house filled with history and rural charm. Settle into a home completely modern and equipped with all the comforts you would want. It is idyllic! Dardano is located in Eastern Tuscany, less than ten minutes drive from the hill city of Cortona, Italy.

Nearby Amenities

Your closest town is Camucia, a small town, which will provide you with all the things you need for your stay. There are two supermarkets, small cafes, good eating establishment, a weekly local market, and gas stations. You will have to drive to Camucia and Cortona, so a car is essential. Camucia is approximately 10 minutes away from Dardano.

The House/Apartment

The house has a long and colorful history. It is in perfect shape. From a family crest carved on the mantle to the remains of a manager and outdoor cooking ovens, every part of the house speaks to a rich and varied history. You will be the only rental on the property.

You can view the property directly at Dardano.

Garden

You may sit on the front porch, or use one of the two outdoor tables for evening meals. One table is situated under a grape arbor. There are acres of land to wander over and a new swimming pool, completely fences for safety, for you to use. Additionally, there are two Bar-B-Qs for outdoor cooking and plenty of lounge chairs to relax on.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The house is furnished in a traditional "farm house" manner and the furniture, which is all in excellent condition, complement the decor of the house. The house was spotless when we arrived. In fact, it looked as though we were the first people to stay there! There are plenty of chairs for around the big kitchen table and comfortable living-room furniture for relaxing on.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The beds were extremely comfortable and there was ample linen, pillows, and blankets for every bedroom. Dardano has two bathrooms, both with showers. They are spacious and well equipped. The downstairs bathroom has a washing machine and you can hang your clothes to dry outside.

Kitchen

The kitchen was completely functional and well stocked with dishes, glasses, pots and pans and all sorts of kitchen tools. The outside eating areas have their own set of pots and pans, so you don't have to remove items from the kitchen. We ate many meals in the main kitchen and had no difficulty in their preparation.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners of the property, Carla and Paolo, were perfect hosts. Every detail, from welcoming flowers and wine and a nice historical tour of the house to the absolute guarantee of privacy made our stay enjoyable.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

I rented Dardano for two weeks using Summer's Leases as the agent. You can be assured that you are in competent hands with this agency. The rental and the payment went smoothly. The directions to the rental were perfect and meticulous in detail. The photographs and descriptions of the property were completely accurate. I would have no reservations about using Summer's Leases for my future vacation rentals. They even called me on a cell phone after I first inspected the house to be use everything was in order!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I have no reservations about recommending Dardano and Summer Leases to anyone. I am already planning my 2009 return.

Things to do in this area

The house is in a perfect location to allow you to explore Cortona, Lake Trasimeno, Assisi, Perugia, Deruta, Pienza and Montepulciano on day trips. You are a short train trip from Florence and even Rome. You have all of Umbria and most of Tuscany to explore. After a day of journeys, sit back on the front porch with a glass of Vino Nobile or take a dip in the swimming pool. Your nights will be filled with the sound of frogs and owls and the magic of the light from fireflies!
