1bed/1bath apartment in Trastevere, Rome WhenJune 2008, 1 week LocationThis apartment is in a very busy part of Trastevere. We liked that the location was very central to all the sightseeing we wanted to do but the area is very noisy at night. We felt safe walking around the neighborhood. Nearby AmenitiesThe apartment is just off a street that has many restaurants and shops. There was a grocery store just around the corner. The apartment's washing machine was broken and the nearest laundromat had gone out of business. We hand washed things instead of venturing to the other side of the neighborhood to the other laundromat. The House/ApartmentThe apartment was on the second floor (third by US counting) with no elevator. The stairs were not a problem for us. I believe the agency has two other rentals in the same building. We rarely saw anyone else entering or leaving. It is an older building but the apartment itself seemed more recently redone and newer. Beware, this part of Trastevere is party central every night until 3am! The noise did not keep us from sleeping but if you are a light sleeper it would be impossible. You can view the property directly: Sunflower Apartment. GardenThere was an outside eating/sitting area with table and chairs. We did not use it except for putting laundry out to dry. Several other apartment windows open directly onto it and we were uncomfortable with the lack of privacy. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasI really was disappointed in the furnishings. A couple of the plastic chairs in the dining area were cracked. The apartment was clean enough. We were on the go so much though that we really spent little time in the apartment during the day. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedroom was very basic. Two small plastic nightstands and the bed. There was a nice closet and drawer area for putting clothes away. The mattress on the bed was very lumpy and made sleeping difficult. The bathroom was clean. There was a toilet, bidet and tub/shower combo. The jacuzzi tub was non-functional. See more under problems section. KitchenVery small kitchen with microwave, refrigerator and two-burner cook-top. We only reheated take away food and made tea in it. Enough dishes for two people. Appreciated the kettle for tea. Problems or BonusesThe agency advertised this apartment as having a washing machine and a jacuzzi bathtub. Both of these were important to us in choosing a rental. We were disappointed to find neither working. We arrived on Monday and when we asked to be shown how the washer worked, were informed it had been broken for awhile. We tried the jacuzzi late Tuesday and found it not working and notified the agency early Wednesday. After several phone calls back and forth, the owner finally came on Friday and tried to fix it himself but was unable. He tried to get an electrician to come out for Saturday but no-one ever came. I did request a partial refund and accepted the €50 the agency offered me. I would have chosen another rental if I had known these facilities were not working. Agency and Representatives (and price)When originally requesting information, the agency was very responsive (sometimes almost immediately). Once I reserved the apartment, it always took until the second email or phone call to get a response. The agency people did speak English. There was a notebook in the apartment for guest comments and several mentioned the nonworking jacuzzi and washing machine. If these problems have been present for awhile then why are they not being taken care of? Whether it's the owners fault or the agency's, I did feel mislead by the false advertising of this apartment's amenities. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would probably not stay here again. The only real plus was the location but in Rome, that is a big consideration.
