apartments on an estate near Pianella, Tuscany Chianti WhenSept. 1999, 2 weeks ReviewArgiano is a working farm (grapes, olives) in the Chianti region just north-east of Siena. The former barns have been beautifully restored into about six vacation rentals. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment, Mimosa. It was small, but everything was well designed, so it didn't seem small. We were there for two weeks. I would recommend this for a one or two week stay, but not for longer (just because the apartment didn't feel that homey and the other apartments change every week). The apartment had a beautiful porch looking out over the lawns and the pool and then the countryside. This picture shows the porch with our beach towels drying on the rails. The kitchen was small and meagerly equipped (you know the type; two forks, two knives, two plates, etc.), but was usable. The living area was very nice and the bedroom and bathroom were upstairs and were very nice. The complex itself is beautiful and is perfectly maintained; lovely stone courtyards with planters full of flowers everywhere. There is a laundry room, but we didn't bother using it and had our laundry done in Pianella instead. You can walk on the grounds of the farm (there is a large woodland) or on the white roads from the farm. The location is good for touring. Only 20 minutes or less to Siena, 15 minutes to Gaiole for great shopping. Lots of restaurants nearby. My only disappointment was that you really couldn't walk to a town from the farm. I thought Pianella was in walking distance, but the walk there isn't that nice and Pianella is a very small town on the edge of a main road.
