1bed/1bath apartment in San Polo, Venice When1999, 2000, 1 week each stay LocationAbout a 2 minute walk off Campo delle Beccarie near the Pescaria Rialto. Fourth floor (Italian style, up four full flights - no elevator). Very crowded neighborhood but very clean. Mostly locals. Above some fish monger's wearhouses but no smell and only minimal noise in the morning. Nearby AmenitiesLots to do in the direct neighborhood. Loads of bars in the Pescaria and in the Erborea nearby. Fish market at your feet. Vegetable market a 5 minute walk. Do Mori is the closest bacaro. Incredible food and wine. Da Pinto is closest restaurant, great cheap seafood and chicchetti but don't do the pasta or pizze. Banco al Giro (I think that is the name) is very new in the vegetable market. Great little nameless wine bar down the row from the big cheese shop in the vege market. Great access to the Vaporetto at St. Stae and Ca d'Oro. Traghetto stop nearby as well. 7 minutes to the Rialto bridge. The House/ApartmentModern apartment done up by the owners. Clean and homey. Beautiful bedroom with views out the windows. Very heavy and insulated windows for quiet. Tiny balcony with a table for 4. The other apartments are lived in by locals. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasOld but ok furniture - dining room table, couch, TV, bed. Kitchen has basic cooking equipment but bring your own knives if you plan on any serious cooking. Bedrooms/BathroomsNice bed, firm. Couch beat up a little. The bathroom is a little funky when it comes to hot water. Having the heat on helps you get more hot water in the shower. KitchenJust enough cooking equipment to cook dinner for 4. Very basic set up. Horrible knives. Small hallway type kitchen. Clothes washer in bathroom. Problems or BonusesBonuses: location, free from tourists until you get to the Campo and the Rialto. Real feeling. Access to everything so easy. Paola is a wonderful owner. Agency and Representatives (and price)All handled with the owner via email. Super snap to do business with her. The second stay she accepted a personal check from us for the rent. Ca d'Oro, Pescaria Rialto, Erborea, Peggy Guggenhiem, Carpaccio's at Scuole San Georgio degli Schiavoni, Murano Glass Shops (F. Schiavon and Murano Collection), Torcello, Scuole San Rocco, Frari.
