2bed/2bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice WhenJune 11,2008, 3 nights LocationThe Lucia Apartment is in the Cannaregio district of Venice. We loved the location. It is far enough from the crowds but close enough to walk everywhere. If you would rather take a vaporetto, the stops are conveniently located along the canal right outside your apartment. The apartment itself is one of several situated around a central garden. The Lucia Apartment has a table and chairs in the garden, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. Nearby AmenitiesThere were small grocery stores right on our street where we could get fresh fruit and vegetables and daily staples such as milk, bread, coffee, tea, etc. There are also a few bars where you can get cafe latte and croissants for a quick breakfast before setting out for the day. One of the best restaurants in the area belongs to the caretaker and his wife and is right next door to the apartment. It is a very small and unassuming place but don't be fooled! You'll need a reservation if you plan on having dinner there. The area has no shortage of good restaurants. The House/ApartmentThe street, I believe, is historical. The buildings are all one story and are very well maintained. From the street you go down a long alleyway where you come to a gated garden. The apartments surround the garden. It is very secure as only the residents have the key to the gate. You can view the property directly: Lucia Apartment. GardenThere is a very nice sitting area with lavender and rosemary growing profusely. It is a shared space but your sitting area is outside your door so there is privacy. There is no pool at this property. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment is very clean and comfortably furnished and everything is in good condition. We had four people in the Lucia Apartment and in the evenings two friends who had rented the other apartment from Doorways Ltd. came over for drinks and dinner. There was quite enough room at the table and in the garden for us all. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were very nice. There were two full bathrooms that appeared to be new. One had a whirlpool tub and the other had a stand up shower. KitchenThe kitchen is not really a room unto itself. It is an area off the living-dining room. It was quite sufficient for our purposes. There are enough pots and pans and dishes etc. for the number people in the apartment. We did cook full meals in the kitchen and enjoyed it, however, it is a small area and requires some maneuvering. Problems or BonusesWe were pleasantly surprised at the overall charm and ambiance of the apartment - it's large windows and beautiful front door which opens onto a patio bordered by flowers and lavender. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency we booked with, Doorways Ltd., is wonderful. They are completely professional and are extremely helpful with any questions you may have. I have booked through them three times and have been more than satisfied with both their properties and their service. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely! There is no doubt that I would stay here again. I have already recommended this property as well as the two others I have stayed at to friends and co-workers. Things to do in this areaSomething I found very useful and enjoyable on my first day in Venice was jumping on to a vaporetto to sight-see and get the lay of the land. Walking to the open air market in the morning and grabbing a cafe latte and Nutella croissant on the way was one of my favorite things to do. Also, you must take a gondola ride! As "touristy" as it sounds, it will be one of the highlights of your trip. It is a bit pricey but worth every penny. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
