Review 3627: Doorways, Vista della Montagne

Review by Posey from NY

4bed/4bath house near San Casciano dei Bagni, Tuscany South

June 14, 2008, 1 week

The Vista della Montagne is a beautiful farmhouse in the countryside. The property was private but very open with breathtaking views of the mountains and the sunset. You definitely need a car to get around even if it's just to go town to shop. The town of San Casciano dei Bagni is known for it's state-of the-art spa with healing mineral waters. The town itself is quite charming. There is a butcher, a bakery, a pasta shop, a shop where you can get almost anything you would need (we got bubble wrap and tape to pack our olive oil and wine for transport) and, of course, a few bars for relaxing and taking in the atmosphere.

Nearby Amenities

There are two very good restaurants in town. You do need a car to get to them.

The House/Apartment

The house was impeccably kept and furnished. All the rooms are generously sized. The first floor consists of a large, well-appointed kitchen stocked with all the staples and much more. There are more than enough pots & pans, serving pieces, dishes, glasses, etc.. Off the kitchen is a laundry room and bath with stand-up shower. The dining room seats at least eight comfortably. The living room is tastefully furnished with comfortable seating, a TV, corner fireplace and an open staircase to the second floor. On the second floor there are two bedrooms with their own baths and two bedrooms that share the hall bath. One of the couples decided to use the downstairs bath and the other couple used the hall bath. The bathrooms are modern and attractive. The bedroom furnishings are very lovely and in keeping with the style of the house. The only thing I missed was having a closet or armoire in my room.

You can view the property directly: Vista della Montagne.

There were several sitting areas on the property. There is a grapevine covered pergola with table and chairs right outside the kitchen and dining room doors. This is where we had most of our meals. There is another flower covered pergola with table and chairs in front of the house facing the magnificent sunsets. This is usually where we sat late at night and first thing in the morning with our coffee waiting for the sheep to come by at 8:00am! We had many relaxing afternoons by the pool after busy day trips.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was comfortable and in very good condition. The house was immaculate and came with a housekeeper twice a week.

The beds are comfortable and the rooms are tastefully furnished. The bathrooms are modern and each couple had their own.

The kitchen is great - open and spacious enough for three of us to be prepping and cooking at the same time. All the appliances were of good quality and the owner thought of everything.

Problems or Bonuses

Our biggest surprise was that the house and property are so much more beautiful than the pictures on the website!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Our booking agency, Doorways Ltd., is the best. I have stayed at three of their properties and have had only the most positive experiences. They are friendly and extremely professional and are there for you every step of the way.

I cannot say enough about the owner. She is a lovely person who speaks fluent English. She is also a consummate professional and makes sure that your stay is as comfortable and care-free as possible.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would go back to Vista della Montagne in a heartbeat! I have already recommended it and other Doorways properties to friends and co-workers.

Things to do in this area

We mostly took day trips to nearby places such as Assisi, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Chiusi, Siena, Perugia and Pienza. We would return late afternoon and go swimming for an hour or so and then either go out to dinner in one of the two restaurants in town (both very good) or cook together and enjoy the sunset from under our pergola.

Chiusi is a town I knew nothing about until we had to pick up some friends from the train station there. It is a very important site for Etruscan ruins and artifacts and has a museum and an underground lake and aqueduct. It is also a very nice place for lunch and a stroll.
