apartments on estate near San Gimignano, Tuscany West WhenJune 21 - 28, 2008, 1 week LocationThis was a fabulous vacation spot. Just 1km from San Gimignano. Beautiful grounds, well equipped apartment. Exceeded our expectations. Gira Travel was responsive and provided wonderful assistance with the booking, arrangements, etc. Highly recommended. Nearby AmenitiesThe walk to town was uphill but manageable. We had a car, which we used for side trips. A large, well stocked grocery store was just outside of the city walls. Restaurants were within walking distance but we used a car to dine in other locations. The House/ApartmentThe building was restored, stone and wood. Quite dark. We had the ground level unit. There are five others in the building. Totally peaceful and quiet with a large patio. You can view the property directly: Monteoliveto. GardenOur patio was spacious and lovely, only for our use. The pool was clean and a good size for swimming or just getting wet. There was a common area overlooking the pool but no one but us ever used it. The view from the pool and deck area was all Tuscan hillside ... olive groves and grape vines. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was more than adequate for my daughter and me. It was very clean and well stocked. This is Tuscany, no screens on the windows so lizards come and go! Bedrooms/BathroomsWe stayed in an open space. The bed was behind a partition. Because we are a mother/daughter "team", we did not need the privacy that others would require. The bathroom was adequate. Small but functional. KitchenThe kitchen was well stocked with average quality supplies. We cooked two dinners in and managed with what was provided. Never used the oven. Gas range, four burners. Problems or BonusesMore peaceful and beautiful than expected. The girl that managed the location did not speak any English. Agency and Representatives (and price)Gira Travel was great... Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, I would highly recommend this spot to anyone. However, if you are used to hotels with every convenience (hair dryers, large fluffy towels, air conditioning, etc.), this may not be appropriate. Things to do in this areaWe visited Siena and Volterra as day trips from this location. Also travelled to Cinque Terre and took two days to travel and do the five hill town hike.
