Review 364: InTuscany, La Penisola

Review by Warren from UK

house and apartment on a farm near Radda, Tuscany Chianti

05/10/2002 to 13/10/2002, 8 days

La Penisola is about 1.5 km outside of Radda in Chianti. Admittedly it is downhill so it would be a strenuous walk up to the village but a very quick drive and plenty of parking around. It is a couple of minutes on a dirt road off the main road. Very quiet, beautiful views and a lovely area. Very peaceful.

Nearby Amenities

I would say drive to the amenities. You could walk but it is uphill all the way. There are excellent restaurants littered all over the place. 5min drive to Valpaia across the valley, 5min to Radda, 20min to Borgo Antico outside Lucolena, 20min to Lamole near Greve in Chianti.

The House/Apartment

It was a beautiful little appartment converted from the end of a barn. Tiled ground floor with open plan kitchen. A bathroom with shower only off to the side. The bedroom was in a loft above. Low ceilings but a skylight to let in the stars etc :)

Good private outside sitting area. A barbeque provided. The area is screened by plants etc from the rest of the property. There is a pool further down the hill shared with another apartment.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in good shape overall. One item damaged by earlier guests was not a problem. There were enough chairs for everyone and the place was clean and dusted.

Comfortable, soft, lovely duvet covering. Hanging space for clothes and shelf space.

Small but perfect. Enough cutting space and so on. Gas lighter provided and a small fridge freezer more than sufficient for the occassional dinner in. There were enough pots/pans/plates/glasses/cutlery.

Problems or Bonuses

All good. A lovely, quiet, peaceful spot with easy access to the bigger cities and with restuarants, vineyards and history all around.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Well. They got back to me quickly in answering all my questions and everything was processed efficiently. They spoke English and were very helpful. The advertisement was perfectly accurate.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

More than recommended. I would go again and will certainly recommend to friends and family.

Things to do in this area

To do nearby: 1. walk in the woods. 2. visit vineyards.

Further afield (30min). 1. an abundance of restaurants. 2. Greve in Chianti. 3. Old monasteries and castles. 4. The train to florence.

An hour away: 1. everything, florence, sienna, san gimignano, montalcino, montepulciano, pienza etc.

Restaurants: 1. Lamole: on the way to Greve in Chianti. Beautiful views, very friendly staff, english speakers. Wide menu with lots of tuscan favourites. About 12 for a main and 4 for a starter. Good wine list. Highly recommended for good tasty food and attentive staff. 2. Borgo Antico: just south of Lucolena on the road to Radda in Chianti. Charming atmosphere and the best fiorentina steaks I've had. Huge wine cellar anmd good views. Staff speak a bit of english.
