apartments on an estate near Montepulciano, Tuscany South
When6/28/08 - 7/5/08, one week LocationPodere Le Manzinaie is located about 10-15 miles from Montepulciano. The estate is surrounded by farm fields. We stayed in Villa Viole, a small house on the estate, which has two bedrooms, two baths and a kitchen/eating area. Nearby AmenitiesThere is a new market in Aquaviva, a village about three or four miles from Le Manzinaie. In the other direction, there are some small markets, an outstanding gelateria and a restaurant in Montepulciano Stazione, which is a little closer. There is also a larger supermarket in Montepulciano, which sells clothing and dry goods in addition to groceries. Really, though, it would be difficult to walk to any of them as there is no sidewalk and you would be walking along the highway. The House/ApartmentIn addition to Villa Viole, there are four apartments in the main house on the bottom floor. The family lives on the top. There is also a new addition, which is a separate building with three bedrooms and two or three baths. They are all beautifully restored. GardenVilla Viole has its own private garden. Otherwise, this is a large property with ample space for its guests. There is a huge pool, which is in a lovely setting and is kept in a pristine condition. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything is spotless and convenient. Every thought is given to the guests' needs and comfort. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable, the bedrooms nice. There were enough bathrooms. KitchenThe kitchen is fully equipped and usable. We prepared our dinner there each evening and then enjoyed it in the garden. Problems or BonusesThere is a huge vegetable garden from which guests are invited to take whatever they want. There is also a wine-tasting at a local vineyard one afternoon and a combination cooking lesson/group dinner one evening. Both were great fun! Agency and Representatives (and price)The owners are accommodating in every way. Everyone speaks at least some English, but the daughter of the family, Alice, is fluent. While they are very professional in their business dealings, that doesn't get in the way of making you feel like an old, dear friend. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would (and have) recommended Le Manzinaie to everyone. This is our second visit ... we look forward to being there again sometime in the future. Things to do in this areaSiena, Assisi and the Tuscan hill towns are all within easy driving distance. If you should happen to get bored (we can't imagine that), you can easily drive up to Florence for the day. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
