Four of us stayed three nights in an apartment on via Capo le Case that was booked through BestRentRome. There were no problems prior to arrival, online bookings and communications were fine. They took a 125 deposit on my credit card and we were told final, total payment plus a 200 security deposit had to be paid in cash upon arrival to the apartment. A few days before we arrived they had to switch our apartment from the Trevi Fountain apartment to the Spanish Steps apartment (both in the same bldg) due to faulty A/C - no problem.

The pictures on line are true to life, but it's what you can't see that was the problem, dirt and dust, things broken and in disrepair. The place was dirty and dusty, even the hangers. The bathroom floors were cracked and nasty, the hardwood floors were cracked and lifting. The tub and toilet were so worn and nasty. The shower faucet fell off as did the bedroom door handle. There was a washing machine in the bathroom that had a toilet, sink and bidet, but you couldn't use the washer because you couldn't open the door all the way - it hit the toilet. You would have had to be a contortionist to use the bidet the way it was placed. The other bathroom had a sink and tub with shower attachment. That situation actually was beneficial for four of us, although you had to go through the bedroom to get to both bathrooms. The bureau draws were filled with dust and hair. The floors, everything you touched was dirty. The TV remote was so nasty, we didn't use it. The walls were dirty. The refrigerator door handle was broken.

The "kitchen" was so small it was essentially useless except for the fridge. Most of the lamps and light bulbs in the apartment did not work, only one out of four bulbs in the bathrooms worked, making it very dark (no window in one).

We ended up not paying the security deposit because we were checking out very early in the morning and they did not want to have to come back but since they had my credit card number I was concerned. I called the owner to tell her of my concern and disapproval of this apartment's condition. She apparently did not understand me well because she sent over more sheets (which I had not even mentioned). So I took pictures.

The good things about this apartment: location was fairly good, a few minutes walk to the Spanish Steps and metro, the air conditioning worked wonderfully, thank goodness because the heat in rome was extreme. The beds were comfortable and seemed clean enough and the elevator worked fine.

The apt was on the fourth floor (Italian). It had one bedroom with the two bathrooms in it, a long hallway leading into the living room, with window, and a sofa bed, TV and large wall unit and small kitchen table.

When i arrived home I emailed BestRentRome with my concerns and complaints. After several days and two emails, their answer was that they sent the pictures to the owner and "AGAIN" suggested he make improvements, which he said he would. They must have received other complaints also, so they knew how bad this apartment was but continued to advertise and rent it. I don't care if they are just the booking agent, they should have rejected this apartment until improvements had been made.

I will not book through this agency ever again!!
