Review 3657: Casa Gigliola, Casa Celeste

Review by Morten H from Denmark

2bed/1bath apartment in Monticiano, Tuscany West

11 July 2008, 4

The apartment was located in a 5,000 people village called Monticiano, located in the hills/mountains of Tuscany, approximately 35 minutes away from Siena. The apartment is in a quiet street, and there is a five minute walk to the city main square. Just opposite the house, there is a playground.

Nearby Amenities

There are a few restaurants in the city, which can be reached by foot in 5-15 minutes walk, depending on the restaurant. Coffee shops and the local supermarket is only five minutes away by foot.

The House/Apartment

The house was a well kept house, and the apartment has its own roof terrace. The apartment has everything you will need. The house has two rental apartments, on the first and second floor of the building, and the owner lives on the main floor and the basement of the building.

There is a private roof terrace, which can be used by the apartment only. Other areas are not included in the rental. However the owner is very nice, and we brought our 1 year old daughter, who played in the courtyard, and on the grass in front of the building.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment is furnished to meet all basic needs, and did provide us all we could think of. The roof terrace with garden furniture and a fantastic view is an extra treat.

The apartment was very clean, and had air conditioning in the main living room.

The bedroom is large, and has a large closet, where you can unpack. It is air conditioned. There are pillows, blankets, and also duvet.

The bathroom is functional, and has an installed washing machine, that can be used free of expense.

The kitchen was well equipped, including a gas stove, pots, pans and dishes for hosting much more people than the apartment can be rented for. The kitchen did also have a microwave oven. The tap water is drinkable, so you don't have to buy a lot of bottles of water to keep in the house for drinking.

Problems or Bonuses

The owner of the house is extremely nice. We arrived a little late, so she had baked us a large cake/pie, which we could enjoy in the evening. We brought our 1 1/2 year old daughter, and the owner simply loved her, and wanted to play with her. The owner and the place really makes you feel at home right away. If you have any problems, she is willing to assist you. I had no coverage on my cell phone, and my mother had her birthday, so she lent me her phone, to call from Italy to Denmark, that was a big gesture to me.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency we used to book was the owners direct and they were very service minded, and assisted with communicating with the owner when we were late in the airport. The owner only speaks Italian, but she is good at communicating and making herself understandable even for people who does not speak Italian.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would recommend the apartment to any travelers that would like to have a base location to stay in, and then drive around in car to see e.g. Florence, Pisa or the magnificent Siena.

Things to do in this area

We drove to Florence, Pisa and Siena, and loved all the cities. We didn't use much time in the town, other than on the roof terrace in the morning and the evenings, and some time in the playground across the street.
