Review 3666: Agriturismo Il Passo degli Ulivi, Apartment

Review by Matthew from Canada

apartments on a farm near Paganico, Grosseto, Tuscany West

sunset from villa, photo by

June 7-14, 7 nights

This villa is located on the beautiful Tuscan countryside. It is next to a farm but other than that there is only orchards all around. We had beautiful sunsets every night. The area is quiet and a short drive north of Paganico. The nearest large city would be Grosseto (20-30 minutes by car). It is also a short drive (30-60 minutes) to Siena and Florence.

Nearby Amenities

You must drive to get to the nearest town of Paganico. In Paganico there is a grocery store and market on Saturdays as well as places to get coffee/gelato and fresh pasta. There are a few nice restaurants within a 10-20 minute drive from the villa.

The House/Apartment

In the building there are three apartments. All have an outside seating area and access to an outdoor pool (shared). The apartment was a one bedroom and was new and beautiful inside. The kitchen was well equipped and had a gas stove. The room was very clean and quiet. There was also a living room with a couch and small TV. Overall a very nice accommodation.

There is a nice outside sitting area for each room (semi-private) and the pool is shared.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

There are four chairs at the dinner table. There is a large fold out couch and a large bed in the bedroom. All the furniture was in very good shape.

The bathroom was very nice. It was newly refinished and very clean. The bed was comfortable and nice.

Very nice kitchen. It was well stocked. It has limited counter space for preparing food but we cooked in it every night and found it very enjoyable to cook in.

Problems or Bonuses

Good: beautiful sunsets and very quiet.

Bad: Need to plan ahead for purchasing food for the villa because stores aren't always open when you might expect them to be.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The people who own this villa were extremely gracious hosts. They provided all kinds of info about the area when we arrived. They speak some English (enough to get by). They were very accommodating. The place was very much what we'd hoped for from seeing the website.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay here again. I would recommend this place to a friend. I think this spot is ideal for a family with kids. There is lots of room to run around (patio and pool area) and it could make for a very relaxed vacation. It is also relatively close to many different places, perfect for taking day trips.

Things to do in this area

We went to see Pari (not a tourist in site and has a nice little restaurant for lunch). Paganico is the nearest town - you must try the home-made pasta called tortelli - unbelievable! Paganico also has excellent gelato. For casual dining we went to a nearby pizzeria (they are friends with the owner - ask for details). Highly recommend visiting San Gimignano and Montalcino as well. If you decide to take a day trip to Florence don't drive - not worth the trouble and costs 25 to park.
