Review 3671: Rentvillas, Virgilio - Girasole

Review by Graeme G from Australia

Apartments on an estate near Tavarnalle, Tuscany Chianti

Between 06-16 June 2008, Ten Days

The location of Virgillio (aka La Valle a Polvereto) is approximately 30 kilometres from Florence in Northern Italy, easily accessible by motor car. For the traveller utilising the navigation aid of a GPS as we did, the address to enter into the GPS is - Via Valle a Polvereto -, which takes you direct to the entrance lane to the property.

I consider that we were the lucky ones at the time of our stay, as the apartment, Girasole (1bed/1bath), was perfectly situated to capture the early morning rays of sunshine seeping through into the covered patio where we enjoyed many a breakfast overlooking the sun drenched vineyards and scattered olive trees.

Nearby Amenities

Local restaurants were not really an issue, as we were contented to fend for ourselves or partake of the hospitality of our gracious hosts as offered.

Supermarket facilities were located in the township of Tavarnelle, only about 15 minutes away by car, and the stocks there were more than adequate to provide for oneself very well. Selection of D.O.C.G rated wines from the Alimentari or the Supermarket guaranteed that there was never a complaint about a bottle of wine savoured during our stay.

The House/Apartment

The building is constructed in traditional style from rendered grouted stone walls, so typical of the area. Although the building was quite new, the faithful representation of traditional styles was very complimentary to the overall experience.

The venue at La Valle is delightful and very peaceful. Away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, it was pleasing to be able to relax in the quiet and solitude of the countryside for a short while.

You can view the property directly: Virgillio - Girasole.

In the one bedroom apartment we rented, we were fortunate to have our own terraced and covered veranda which made for a delightful meal venue, particularly at breakfast time when the morning sun bathed the veranda in warm sunlight.

The Villa gardens were a delight, with a real cross section of flowers and shrubs, and the gardens were complimented with the varied rural backdrop of the farm itself, with vines and olive tree plantings.

A large shared pool was available for guest usage, and the pool and surrounds were clean and well maintained.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Rooms were well furnished with quality furniture, including a comfortable lounge for relaxation and solid timber dining table and chairs, all in good condition.

The apartment was very clean and provided with all cleaning equipment for daily needs.

The apartment was well appointed with everything required for a short stay and the ability to fend for yourself as desired.

Bedding was well sized and comfortable, with more than adequate bedding and pillows for a comfortable stay.

Kitchen was well laid out and provided for everything we could ask for. We were fending for ourselves with simple meals and not entertaining so it was more than adequate for the purpose, well equipped and quite capable for preparation and cooking of full meals.

Problems or Bonuses

Of particular bonus was that one evening we were treated to an meal, which featured, as its main course, wild boar captured from the property, marinated and cooked to perfection by ours hosts.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The reservation agency were very attendant and expressed genuine concern for our needs.

Our hostess, Brunella, was very friendly and communicated in English, aided by my tourist knowledge of Italian, so we conversed very well without problem. The property was reflective of the advertised standards provided at the time of enquiry and reservation.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely repeat our stay at La Valle, and have recommended it to our friends already.

This is a quiet stay for the traveller not demanding of activities galore to provide entertainment. Explore the region by car equipped with GPS Navigator to take in what Tuscany has to offer.

Things to do in this area

Most days we ventured by motor car to surrounding townships and places of historic interest which abound in the region, and the Medieval township of San Gimignano and its beautiful restaurants was one of the more memorable experiences.
