2bed/1bath house in Villa San Secondo, Piemonte WhenJanuary 2008, 4 weeks ReviewWe stayed at the Nido earlier this year and had such a wonderful time. The Nido is situated at the very top of the beautiful village of Villa San Secondo in Piemonte. From the Nido you have a spectacular view across the valley covered in vineyards, farmland and hazelnut trees. From the second storey balcony you can see the myriad of tiny villages dotted around on the nearby hills. The view at night is spectacular! Next door to the Nido is the old church, still in use. We loved the sound of the church bells. They made us feel like we were truly 'at home'. Just a few steps from our front door we were also able to see right across to the magnificent Italian Alps. The Nido was wonderful to stay in. We are a family of four and found everything comfortable and cosy. The house is very clean and we had absolutely no problems with heating, water etc. We found the owners only too happy to help us out with useful information and advice about our travels. Villa San Secondo is a lovely little village to stay in. The people are very friendly and all of our needs were met for supermarket shopping and postal services. Two minutes drive away is the village of Montechiaro where you can find a great little market and fabulous coffee! The nearby city of Asti had a bit more variety and was a fantastic city to spend time in. Each Saturday and Wednesday it is the hub for a wonderful market that sells everything you could possibly want. From there it was only a short drive (or train trip) to Torino with its fabulous architecture, Egyptian Museum and chocolate! We used our home at Il Nido to base all of our travel from as it was so easy to get to for longer trips (we travelled to Puglia and back) and very central for day trips (we travelled to Switzerland and back in a day!) There is so much to do in Piemonte and the Nido is a great place to make as your base. It is very reasonably priced, easy to park next to and very comfortable. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend staying at Il Nido. It was a fabulous place to stay and we can't wait to return one day!
