Review 3728: Owner, Apartment in Scanno (#68191)

Review by Carter from OR

2bed/2bath house in Scanno, Abruzzo

July 2008, 4 days

Narrow, four-story townhouse in the historic center of the charming mountain town of Scanno. Scanno is a delightful place and the location of this rental could not have been better. There is no dedicated parking spot, but free parking is readily available nearby.

Nearby Amenities

Numerous small grocery stores in town, within a hundred meters or so, from which you can buy all the basics. Dozens of restaurants within the town of Scanno, all of which are within easy walking distance.

The House/Apartment

The home is contained on four separate floors. The ground floor contains the kitchen/dining room. The living room/TV room is on the second floor. The two bedrooms and bathrooms occupy third and fourth floors.

There is an outdoor patio off of the fourth floor bedroom.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

House was clean and well-furnished. Second floor had a nice TV with DVD player and satellite. There were many good DVDs and books as well.

The beds were very nice and the bedrooms were cosy and comfortable. Both bathrooms were good and modern, but I think the one on the fourth floor was a little nicer.

The kitchen was quite good. It had high quality dishes and utensils, and a dishwasher that worked well. The refrigerator was large and kept everything cold (not always the case with the rentals we have had in Italy). Kitchen more than adequate for preparing simple meals. Only complaint is that the ceilings are low in the kitchen and there is not much natural light.

Problems or Bonuses

We were surprised how nice the house was. The photos on the website did not do it justice. The website said the home was recently refurbished to a high standard and that was definitely the case.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Email communications with the owner were adequate, but it would have been nice to have received confirmation that he received our payment in advance. There were no problems, though. We paid just under 100 per night.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would certainly stay here again if we were to return to the area. The house is very cozy and the town is delightful. The only negatives I can think of are that the ground floor (kitchen and dining room) is somewhat cave-like and may give tall folks claustrophobic feelings, and it can sometimes be a pain to walk up to the third floor to go to the bathroom.

Things to do in this area

The mountain scenery is spectacular. In the summer, Lake Scanno is a nice place to go for a swim or boatride. There are lots of other attractive small towns in the mountains nearby. Four days was not enough time to see even a small percentage of what's there. This would be a great place to stay in the winter. (There is a ski area only about a mile away.)
