2bed/2bath apartment near Piazza del Popolo, Rome WhenJuly 2008, 1 week LocationThe Flaminio apartment is located near Piazza del Popolo. Piazzale Flaminio is just two blocks away which was convenient since there is a subway entrance there and easy to catch buses as well. It took about 15 minutes to walk to the Spanish Steps. Actually it would have taken less but we enjoyed window shopping and people watching along the way. The Tiber river is just two blocks away so it is walkable to St. Peter's as well in about 20 minutes. It is a six story apartment building, nice clean lobby, friendly doorman who spoke some English. There is a mixture of apartment buildings and some more modern office buildings in this area. Nearby AmenitiesThere are three cafes within a block, a small but well stocked grocery store one block, ATM bancomat machine just two blocks and also in the morning there is a small open-air little produce market just three blocks away. The House/ApartmentBuilding is art deco style so isn't old by Roman standards, probably from the 1930's. The apartment is on the top floor, 6th floor. Probably two apartments per floor. Plenty of privacy. GardenThere is a narrow terrace that wraps two sides of the living room. Very pleasant and nice to open living room doors to enjoy sunny mornings. There is a small table and a couple of chairs outside. The terrace is narrow but we knew to expect this from the website photos. It was still nice though to people watch and to get outside in the mornings. The weather was hot but there were a few evenings when it was cool enough to have drinks on the terrace. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasApartment is nicely furnished. Two sofas in the living room were of high quality, new, clean and in good shape. Plenty of places for everyone to sit. Good lighting. Beautiful Venetian chandelier in the living room. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds were comfortable. Master bathroom is large. Second bathroom is quite small but has a good shower. KitchenKitchen was fine, nothing fancy or new but we didn't cook in a lot so it met our needs. We had breakfast in the mornings at the apartment and maybe a light meal there at lunch or dinner several times but ate out most of the time. It is well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, drip coffee maker, microwave. Problems or BonusesWe were delighted with our stay. The greeter spoke English and gave us a good orientation on how to work everything in the apartment. We liked the location a lot and would stay here again if the opportunity arises. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency Italy Perfect was great to work with. The photos on the website are accurate and gave us a good idea of what to expect. Lisa (owner of Italy Perfect) was prompt in answering our questions during the booking process and was thorough was all aspects. The confirmation packet was very useful with all kinds of useful tips about Rome. The private driver she recommended for airport pick up was friendly and prompt and even called the greeter for us to let him know we were on our way from the airport. All went smoothly. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely! The apartment met our needs and we hope to return again. Things to do in this areaWe liked Pizza Re on Via della Ripetta. It's about a 10 minute walk from the apartment. Went back several times during the week since it was so good. Santa Maria del Popolo church is just a few minutes walk and has some beautiful Caravaggio paintings and other famous artwork and statues.
