7bed/5bath just outside Siena, Tuscany Siena WhenAugust 2008, 1 week LocationThis is a beautiful villa, actually a converted church, on top of a hill with the most spectacular views. There are two restaurants located within a 1/4 mile of the villa. The pool was a wonderful treat after visiting nearby villages and wineries. Nearby AmenitiesA car is necessary, the roads are very curvy and if you are walking in the dark it could be a bit dangerous. The nearest grocery store is a 10-15 minute drive, but has everything you need. I think you could walk in the morning to one of the restaurants for coffee and breakfast, but we opted to make our own and just relax, enjoy the view and plan the day's events. The House/ApartmentThis is two villas attached by a hallway and rented together. There are two completely functional kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms. All appliances (two dishwashers, two stoves two refrigerators and air conditioners in most bedrooms) were in perfect condition. You can view the property directly: Villa Del Cielo with Caminetto. GardenThe landscaping was gorgeous, flowers, olive trees, lemon trees and fig trees everywhere. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe entire place was clean and comfortable, our kids were often found napping on the many sofas! We were a group of 11 and there was plenty of space for everyone to be together or have quiet time alone. Very comfortable. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were extremely comfortable with nice, crisp cotton sheets and blankets. Bathrooms were very clean and functional. KitchenThe kitchen in Caminetto was better equipped and we found we cooked most meals there. Problems or BonusesA very pleasant surprise was to be awakened each morning by the crowing of a rooster, occasionally accompanied by the bleating of sheep. Very peaceful. We were also surprised to find cheese, salami, wine and champagne to welcome us to our villa vacation, a very nice touch. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was great, every inquiry was answered quickly and efficiently. A packet was mailed to us about two months prior to our trip with information about everything we could possibly need, including some local recipes. The villa was exactly as it was described on the website. We were welcomed by a very nice man, Jesus, who speaks no English. With my 15 year old son's high school Spanish we were able to communicate. Jesus was terrific, very patient and he showed us everything. He explained how to work all the appliances and showed us where the circuit breakers were in case of an outage, which there were none. Even though we arrived early Jesus was there, we unloaded our bags and he was kind enough to lead us to the grocery store where we stocked up for the week. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would highly recommend this villa. Things to do in this areaWe visited Siena, drove to Florence (45 minute drive), had a wine tour at Gabbiano Winery and went to the walled village of ... I think it was Montepulciano.
