Review 3740: Tuscan Villas, Giallo

Review by Sandra A B from Germany

6bed/7bath farmhouse near Poppi, Tuscany East

August 2008, 1 week

We recently stayed in Villa Giallo, which is located near Bibbiena between Florence and Arezzo and it was a wonderful experience. Being from Germany I was responsible (thank you Fred – giving me this task ...) for finding a place to stay with our group of friends of ex-study colleagues and our kids. It was our first time in Tuscany and we decided to rent a villa with enough space for our whole group.

From the first day we felt very welcome. The house owner, Stefano, was very friendly and helped us with any possible question. When we had a problem with the electricity he came right away and fixed it. I must say the villa was just gorgeous, clean and the interior and furniture gave us a special Italian feeling and was different from what we have seen before.

Most of the time we spent at the pool or in the garden. Our kids were playing almost all the time. We didn´t know first what to expect – but the scenery and nature was just amazing. Our favourite place in the evenings was the covered terrace where we had our outdoor meals almost every night and a lot of nice conversations. We made our own pizza and it was the first time the kids weren´t complaining. Our evenings were very relaxed and gave us the time to rest we'd been waiting for.

There is a good supermarket nearby (called “coop”). I recommend to visit the next village Bibbiena (try the restaurant Il Tirabuscio) and a small village called Poppi where I can recommend the Ristorante Casentino in front of the castle. In Poppi we had the chance to attend a wine festival during the weekend with wine tasting in the “cantinas” of the historic centre. It was fun and we´ve found some delicious local wines.

We also enjoyed visiting the city of Arezzo (only 30 minutes drive) and of course Florence is a must – even though the drive is quite curvy. It was not always easy to communicate as our Italian is very limited - but somehow we managed to find our ways. It was a pleasant experience and we definitely will come back.

You can view the property directly: Giallo.

Note from SlowTrav: It appears this property can also be rented as two separate apartments.
