apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South WhenMay 2008, 7 days LocationThe farmhouse we rented was in the countryside outside the small town of Pienza. It was in a perfect location about two miles from the center of town. The setting was ideal and the views of the Tuscan countryside we enjoyed from every window. We loved the area and plan to return soon. Nearby AmenitiesYou must have a car in this part of Tuscany. We were only two miles from the grocery store and/or restaurant. The House/ApartmentThe farmhouse dates back to the 16th century, which only adds to the ambiance of the Italian countryside. The property is so quiet and serene, my family described it as "a piece of heaven." There were five units, including ours. GardenThere was no pool, which we were glad about. A pool would only distract from the pastoral setting and add noise to the area. The outside area has ample seating (chairs, chaises and 1 large picnic table with benches). The outside is beautiful ... it will take your breath away! Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was in excellent shape, very clean, neat and homey. We loved the open windows where we could lie in bed at night and hear the quiet. Then, in the morning we'd awake to a rooster off in the distance and church bells. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfy and as soft as a feather bed. The linens were impeccable and of high quality. The bathrooms were small, but completely modern and clean. We'd been told that the water pressure was somewhat lacking in Europe, but after a three week vacation there, we found the water pressure to be just the same as in the States. KitchenThe only thing we cooked was scrambled eggs for my grandson. They had plenty of dishes, pots and pans and silverware, we just ate out at the fantastic Italian restaurants. Incidentally, the eggs were brought to us every day or so, by the owners, from their own laying hens. Problems or BonusesThe only surprise was the beauty of the landscape and the sincere welcome we received from Isabella and her wonderful family. They treated us like family guests and worked very hard to make our stay memorable. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked it directly ourselves. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would definitely stay here again and plan to in a few years. I took my grown children and grandchild and we have had the vacation of a lifetime, You can't go wrong staying at Cretaiole! Things to do in this areaWe ate at nearly every restaurant in Pienza, but our favorite was Latte di Luna. The food was the best, the service was so Italian(friendly and warm), and the patio seating was excellent you won't want to leave. There are two excellent shoe stores with the highest quality Italian shoes. Book your flight and head for this beautiful little spot in Tuscany.
