Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3772: Le Torri, Apartment
apartments on an estate near Montespertoli, Tuscany Chianti
June 2008, Two weeks
Fantastic location; close to Montespertoli and half an hour from Florence; Vinci, San Gimignano etc. were all very close by. It was private location, with electronic gate control and with absolutely beautiful gardens and pool.
It was possible to walk for groceries about 20 minutes but if it was too hot better to take car! Also local restaurants available within about half hour walk - beautiful local food.
Excellent apartment with possible 16 others varying from single to double. Everything was accessible and it was in its own estate. Approximately 25 people at any one time but with trips not everyone around all the time.
Absolutely beautiful garden and so well kept by Gabriele and his dad. Lovely sheltered places with gazebos to keep out of the hot sun and barbecue areas and ovens provided and also cleaned! Lots of nice lit places so even in the evening you could sit and read a book of just relax with a bottle of wine. The pool was very well kept and shared with other residents but never crowded. Always clean and a great meeting place.
Furniture was great and living areas very clean with tiled floors for easy maintenance. Very comfortable and clean and enough chairs for all.
Bedrooms were excellent; beds very comfortable with change of linen after first week. Bathrooms were also very good, one large one with bath, shower and toilet and the other with shower and toilet. Lovely windows in both with excellent views over the countryside.
Yes kitchen was excellent could do with a few more pots and serving dishes but that's not really a complaint it was excellent and we enjoyed preparing and eating many lovely meals there.
Problems or Bonuses
Excellent idea of meeting people on the Saturday of their arrival and having a welcoming supper with food supplied by Gabriele's mum Maria. Great way of integrating new people with people who had been there already for a week; great craic (i.e., fun)! Also loved the Thursday evenings where you could pay I think €28 and dinner was set out on a long table and everyone who wanted to come along sat at the table - all nationalities - and you ate and drank as much as you wanted. Great fun!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I dealt with Gabriele direct and his English was excellent. We certainly were not disappointed after checking this out on line and getting there. It was amazing. I think we paid €500 per week which was excellent value and there were facilities for washing and drying of clothes which were extra but very little.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would love to stay there again! I would certainly recommend it to my best friend and family - I already have - it is just away from it all but everything is within reach so you have a really relaxing time when not doing all the touristy things! Possibly not for children as it's a bit far from amusements or things that maybe the 10 year old plus might like, but good for toddlers and not a problem with residents.
Things to do in this area
Unfortunately I can't remember the names of local restaurants but there are lots and we did avail of them. We also found local shops good for getting BBQ items and we did have those quite often; also local pasta was fantastic. Go wine tasting close by and do visit Vinci where there is a museum full of Leonardo's work and working models. It's amazing, also Volterra and San Gimignano are truly splendid.
