Review 3776: Italy-Accom, Apartment Balestrari

Review by Carisbrookes from UK

1bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

31st August 2008, 1 week

Apartment Balestrari is on the edge of a lively piazza in the centre of Rome. The piazza is a market by day and by night it is a favourite place for restaurants, street musicians and those who just sit and take in the atmosphere.

During our week we were able to walk to all of Rome's main tourist attractions.

Nearby Amenities

The market and nearby shops meant that we were easily able to buy food and drink. We mostly ate in the restaurants in the piazza.

The House/Apartment

The apartment block is very unobtrusive in a side road just off the piazza. We wouldn't have known what to do with a hire car but we didn't have one so that wasn't an issue.

Our apartment was one floor up. Its very in-keeping with the area and has excellent security locks.

The apartment has a shower room, kitchen, entrance hall, dining room, bedroom and very spacious lounge that has two sofa beds for four guests that we only used as sofas.

The lounge, bedroom and dining room has large windows over the street below. With the windows open we could sit and read in the lounge with the sound of the lively night atmosphere and street musicians. With them closed there was near silence and excellent air conditioning to keep it cool.

You can view the property directly: Apartment Balestrari.

The piazza whilst not a private garden is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. There was no pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was very clean and in excellent condition. It was beautifully decorated with attractive furniture, fully loaded book shelves, ornaments and interesting pictures and was very spacious for two of us.

The main bedroom provided a comfortable double bed for us. The air conditioning kept it to our desired temperature.

The kitchen had a cooker and a microwave oven with plenty of room to prepare food on and do the washing up.

Problems or Bonuses

The only surprise was how comfortable it was and how great an area it was in.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We were met by a representative who came out to find us when our taxi driver got confused and couldn't find the address. We could have used the agency arranged pickup.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I strongly recommend this apartment and certainly recommend paying the extra cost over an hotel. It makes you feel part of Rome.

Things to do in this area

We mostly ate in the numerous restaurants in the piazza and there were too many to form a favourite in one week. We would normally walk around the area each evening taking in different parts of the area each night, such as walking down by the river or across to other piazzas. Then we would pick one of our piazza restaurants to eat at. There is even an excellent restaurant, right outside of the apartment door. Afterwards we would find another restaurant just to sit and drink at and watch the life in the piazza until bedtime. Being centrally located it meant that each day, we could set off and explore different locations further afield such as the Vatican or the Roman Forum.
