2bed/2bath apartment in Castello, Venice When17/09/2008, 5 nights LocationThe apartment was in the Castello area of Venice a short walk from the Arsenale or San Zaccaria Vaporetto(water bus) stop. It was a lovely residential location with just a few people passing. We really liked the location. Nearby AmenitiesThe apartment was on a street off the square Campo Bandiera e Moro. There was a bakery, fruit and vegetable shop, butcher and deli just beside the apartment, also a bar where we bought wine, it was red wine from the region and very good. There were more shops including a mini-market for groceries on another street nearby. There are plenty of coffee shops nearby. We had a really enjoyable meal in a restaurant called da Remigio about a five minute walk away. Their desserts tasted heavenly, we sampled each others. The House/ApartmentThe building formed a terrace along the street. The entrance was on a proper street, not a narrow laneway. It had a good solid wooden door. There was a restaurant at ground level and two apartments in the building. A one bed apartment on the first floor level and the two bed apartment on the second and third floor. There is a shared stairway from the entrance. The entrance to both apartments are beside each other at first floor level. There is an internal stairs to the kit/ din area, there is a bathroom off this area with shower. On the next floor there is a lounge area with a sofa bed, two bedrooms and bathroom. All the windows have shutters on the outside and plenty of windows. Two windows (four in all) in the lounge have clothes lines outside. You can view the property directly: Sandrelli GardenThere was no outside area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was absolutely clean. The furniture and fittings were nearly new. Six chairs in kitchen and two sofas in lounge. Only three of us, so more than enough. It was very comfortable, furniture good and sturdy. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds and bed clothes clean and comfortable, had to put extra blankets on bed as weather was cold. Wardrobes along corridor were adequate. Bathroom very good. New fittings with modern mixer taps. Constant hot water for bathrooms and kitchen. KitchenKitchen was fine. Cupboards and dishes fine. Hob with four gas burners good, also microwave. Good extract hood with lights. No oven or grill or toaster. Had to modify my cooking to suit only a hob. It was an Ikea kitchen in good condition. Problems or BonusesNo surprises. It was exactly as on photos on website. Pleased it was exceptionally clean all over. We were going to wedding and there was no iron or hairdryer. Got iron from owner on changeover day of other apartment. Owner took it from other apartment. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was fine. They had an office near Piazzale Roma. We went there on arrival at the coach park. We were treated efficiently and given one set of keys. I don't know if it is usual, but two sets of keys would have been better. The man there spoke adequate English. We paid €750 for five days everything included. I think it was okay for Venice and the convenient and good location. It was exactly as advertised. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it. There are good sized radiators in all the rooms including the bathroom but we did not need heating, so I cannot comment. Neither was air conditioning necessary , so I cannot comment. Lighting over the kitchen table was poor for reading. We had to take a bedside lamp down to study maps and guidebooks to plan our outings. Things to do in this areaShort walking distance to St. Mark's square. We visited St Mark's Basicila (can be booked free online to save queueing), Doges Palace, Correr Museum. Walked to wedding in St. Giorgio dei Greci. Short walk to water bus at Arsenale, from there to Cemetery Island and Murano on No 41. On Line 2 to San Giorgio Island opposite and then to gisettte on Guidetta for coffee (sunny afternoon) and Zattere. Got food in Billa Supermarket at S. Basilio and returned from there, S. Basilio water bus stop just outside it. Had excellent dinner in da Remigio about 5 minutes walk. Lovely jewellery workshops on the street near the apartment.
