2bed/1bath small house near Camaldoli, Tuscany East When1st week in June 2002, 1 week LocationVery quiet, beautiful hill town setting. The property is a converted mill and it sits beside a lovely stream. Nearby AmenitiesWe drove to Bibbiena for groceries, about 20 minutes away. There was a little convenience store in town. We had fabulous restaurant meals in nearby towns - approximately 1/2 hour away. The House/ApartmentThe building is a converted mill redone by the architect/owner. Very stylish interior, incorporating old elements such as the mill stone. It's quite charming, particularly the outdoor fireplace and terrace. Everything was in good working order. GardenThe outdoor terrace was our favorite part! Not heavily landscaped, just beautiful natural features -- stream and forest -- and an outdoor sink and fireplace. We played cards outside, drank wine and sat by the fire. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasVery clean and in good order. Bedrooms/BathroomsNice cozy bedrooms. Twin beds pushed together in one room. The bathroom was nicely done, except that there wasn't enough privacy - the walls didn't go to the ceiling. KitchenIt's a small kitchen, but we did cook several meals at the house. There are so many great restaurants nearby that we didn't have the motivation to cook that much. Problems or BonusesThis house is perfect for a couple, but was not ideal for two couples, because there is little privacy. There is an open floor plan - none of the walls goes up to the ceiling. Not ideal for romance! Agency and Representatives (and price)Excellent. The owner met us and carried our luggage down the path to the house. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend it to a friend for one couple or for close friends. We enjoyed it a great deal. Things to do in this areaFood, shopping, art, hiking - rural Tuscany and all of Florence are nearby. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
