Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3850: Suzanne B. Cohen, Iesolana
Apartments on an estate near Bucine, Tuscany Chianti
September 2008, 1 week
Location was stunningly beautiful and very quiet. Perhaps a little too isolated for us (long dirt road to drive on) but if you are looking for quiet this is the place. A number of dirt trails to hike. You are far away from any cafes or restaurants.
It would be at least a 45-60 minute walk to grocery store, but only a 10 minute drive. Bucine is about 10 minutes away where there is a grocery store, several coffee places and restaurants (our favorite place was Guidieri's which had great cappuccini and pastries) and ATM.
There are several apartments in each building. At least three or four in ours. Each apartment has a wonderful terrace to admire the beautiful scenery. In late September it was always quiet.
You can view the property directly: Iesolana.
Each apartment had their own terrace. While you can see other terraces, they aren't shared. The pool area is beautiful. They were having unusually cool weather so unfortunately we never were able to use it.
Our apartment (Loggiato 2bed/2bath) was spotless. The furniture was clean and comfortable. Only one couch in the living room so we spent most of our time in the dining/kitchen area.
Beds were exceedingly comfortable, we slept well every night. Two bathrooms, each with shower. Always plenty of hot water, and spotless.
Kitchen was comfortable and big enough to cook meals for the three of us. They had all the pans, pots and dishes you could need. We cooked several meals during our stay.
Problems or Bonuses
The only surprise is that the place looked as nice as depicted in the pictures. The only negative is that you do not want a low-riding rental car (which we had) for the long dirt road leading to the place.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Agency was easy to work with - I think I did almost all of it by e-mail. The on-property people speak English. When we checked in the person spoke some English, but with basic Italian we had no problem. We paid €1170 for one week.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would recommend to others. Next time we would prefer somewhere closer to a town, but if you want to get away from it all, this place is wonderful. The people who run it and work there are very warm and accommodating. We ate there twice for dinner which was excellent.
Things to do in this area
We went to Prada outlet in Montevarchi, drove to Siena, took the train to Florence (from Montevarchi), drove to Chianti several times. We loved Guidieri's for coffee in the morning (and great pastries) in Bucine.
