apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South

When

August/Sept 2008, 1 week

Location

Cretaiole is located 2 km from the town of Pienza, in the country. We thought it was a great location with an easy drive to many places in Tuscany. We also liked the town of Pienza where we went to dinner most nights.

Nearby Amenities

There was a trail that one could use to walk to town but we didn't do it. The nearest stores and restaurants is in Pienza or San Querico about 2-3 km away.

The House/Apartment

The building is a historic farm house that was clean and in very good shape. The area was peaceful and quiet. Our apartment, Il Pollaio, was a one room efficiency with a kitchenette. There are a total of six apartments at the farm.

Garden

There are many nice sitting areas outside. None are private but there were plenty of areas for everyone to enjoy the area on their own. There is no pool. There is also a vegetable garden available for the guests to pick from.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is in good condition and comfortable. It was very clean and there was plenty of room for us and our stuff.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large and well equipped. No soap or shampoo was provided and towels are not replaced daily. There was a hairdryer for us to use.

Kitchen

The kitchenette was adequate for simple meals. There was no oven, only a cook-top. There were plenty of pots/pans, utensils, plates, dishes, etc. They also provided coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, and olive oil. We enjoyed cooking a couple of meals there.

Problems or Bonuses

It was a wonderful stay and there were no surprises. Only good things to say about Cretaiole.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked directly with the property. Isabella, host, was very helpful and spoke perfect English. The website accurately reflects the farm and our room. We paid $775 for a week in late Aug/early Sept.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would absolutely stay here again and recommend that anyone give it a try. Someone looking to be pampered at a 5 star property would probably not enjoy it.

Things to do in this area

We poked around the towns, visited wineries and relaxed.
