2bed/1bath apartment in Padova, Veneto WhenOctober 2008, 1 month ReviewFirst, a confession; I don't so much believe in slow travel as in no travel, but I have come to really appreciate Italy, and I guess you have to travel to get there, but once you get there and you don't want to travel, Beavita is a great place to stay. It is just outside the walls of the old town, on a dead end street in a quartiere of family homes and one way streets and as quiet as you could imagine even without the double glazed windows and full shutters. You would never be able to find it the first time yourself, but you don't have to since Laura and Enrico graciously come and pick you up at the station. The flat is close to two bus lines and one tramline and a fifteen minute walk from Prato Della Valle, and a five minute stroll to Celso Patisticcieria, the best cafe bar I've ever known. I think the reason Beavita is so successful as a mid-long term residence is that (as I noodled out in the course of a dinner with Laura and Enrico) is that it wasn't designed as a vacation rental, but as a residence for Laura, and then she and Enrico fell in love (and you couldn't blame either of them for that)and they married and moved into Enrico's joint cause it was bigger. The space is very livable, nappable (meaning the big comfy sofa), and the kitchen has a four burner stove, an oven, an American size refrigerator, and a washing machine. We stayed for a month and I think I could have lived there if the weather hadn't turned on us. That was the only thing our hosts couldn't help us with. They were really great otherwise.
