Review 3883: Owner, Loft in Florence (#137158)
Studio with loft and 1 bath near the Bargello, Florence
Oct. 13-17, 2008, 4 nights
This apartment was truly in the heart of Florence. The Dante House was a block away, the Bargello was two blocks away and best of all, Il Gelato Vivoli was 1/2 block away!
Within a few blocks were two pasticceria, a latteria, a panificio, an alimentari, a macelleria, a delicatessen, and an Internet Point. There were very good restaurants within walking distance including Il Gelato Vivoli and Il Pallotino.
The apartment is 70 steps up with no elevator but it is absolutely beautiful, spacious, and even has a full-sized grand piano in it. Except for one night when the students on the same floor had a going away party, it was very quiet and a really great retreat from the hustle of Florence. Climbing the steps was worth it. There is one very large living-dining room, a small, fully equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher), separate bathroom, washing machine, and a sleeping loft up twelve steps. The owner lives in the apartment next door and is readily available. It is on the third floor (European counting) and there are other apartments on each floor.
There was no outside area.
The furniture was beautiful, and included a lovely antique table, a grand piano and a very large couch. There was an Internet connection available and satellite television.
The bedroom was very comfortable. It is a sleeping loft and if a person is very tall, he or she might have to bend a bit to get to the bed. The bathroom was very nice with a shower, no tub.
The kitchen was very usable. It is what we call where I am from a Pullman kitchen, in that it was small and behind folding doors. There was a dishwasher and a full size refrigerator in addition to the stove.
Problems or Bonuses
We were truly happy here and it is really a beautiful place in a great location.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The owners were very accommodating and very flexible when we had trouble with the bank transfer for the deposit. They also mentioned that they had in the past been able to help renters when they faced a rail strike or other problems in leaving Florence and were able to extend the stay. We did face a rail strike the day we were to leave but managed to get a rental car so we did not have to do this.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would stay here again in a second as long as I was in good enough shape to climb the 70 steps. I would definitely recommend this apartment.
Things to do in this area
Il Pallotino was a wonderful restaurant only 1/2 block away and of course Il Gelato Vivoli was an essential visit every evening! Everything in Florence was well within walking distance from the apartment and because we were so close, we were able to visit many of the crowded sights like the Duomo late in the day, thus avoiding the long lines.
