Studio apartment in Prati, Rome

When

October 2008, 4 nights

Location

The location is in a lovely neighborhood about 1 1/2 miles (30 minute walk) from the Vatican museum and three blocks from the river.

Nearby Amenities

There is a "super market" a block and a half away and a farmer's/flea market every morning until about 3:00pm just up the street with excellent produce and fruit prices. There are many restaurants all around the area.

The House/Apartment

The studio is a rooftop unit and very private. Because it is on the rooftop, the apartment has a slanted roof, which does take a little adjustment. However, the amenities far outweigh this minor fault. The unit is immaculate with a king bed, plenty of storage, small dining table and satellite TV. There is a small refrigerator (really large enough for two people on vacation), microwave and two-burner stove top. The architect owners have done a beautiful job of adding many amenities, like remote controlled skylight windows with blinds or blackout shades if desired, as well as towel warming bars in the bath.

There is an elevator up to the fourth floor and then one must walk up two flights of stairs to get to the apartment so a handicapped person might have a problem.

You can view the property directly: Studio Ruffini.

Garden

The building is one of several which surround a beautiful private garden. There is a gate into the property which is locked at night (your apartment key will unlock it) and there is also a gentleman who checks everyone who enters the property during the day. Also, there is a police station across the street from the entrance so one could not be in a safer environment!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The small sofa-bed is getting a little tired, but was comfortable on which to sit. The King bed was great and there is a small table for two for dining.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bathroom was very nice and had very modern toilet, bidet, sink and shower. There is also a small clothes washing machine in the bath and clothes lines on the roof right outside your door if needed.

Kitchen

The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, glassware and pots/pans. See above for additional info.

Problems or Bonuses

The owner greeted us warmly and gave us all the necessary instructions for using the various remote controls and appliances. He and his wife speak excellent English and were both delightful!

We have travelled extensively, and we both thought this apartment was/is a very special gem instead of staying in a small hotel room in yet another tourist area in a big city!

If you take one of the On-Off bus tours, one of their stops is only a few blocks walk from this apartment. This saved us many euros in cab fare! A big bonus due to the dismal condition of the US dollar.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We own timeshare units and usually stay in a timeshare condo or a hotel. This is the first time I have rented an apartment through an agency on the Internet. I cannot speak more highly of the Italy-Accom staff. They spoke/wrote excellent English as we instant-messaged back and forth on their website and were very helpful in helping me make the right choice for an apartment in Rome.

Studio Ruffini was exactly as depicted on their website and the staff gave me even more helpful information. Their site also provides several good pictures of each unit they represent.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone who wishes to stay in a beautiful building with an equally beautiful garden in a truly Rome (oops upscale) neighborhood versus your average over-priced small hotel room. We are an older couple (60 +) so my only caveat would be that if you are looking for a buzzing nightlife, this is NOT the neighborhood for you.
