1bed/1bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

November 2008, 4 Nights

The location of this apartment was great. It was on Via dei Chiavari and very close to the Campo dei Fiori. The street is quiet and no problems with noise at night. It is very near the restaurant Dar Pallaro.

Nearby Amenities

There is a very nice coffee shop one block away on the same street. Also a nice grocery store around the corner on the next street. Several restaurants nearby in the Campo dei Fiori and Navona areas. Largo Argentina was about two blocks away for buses and trams. There was an Internet point in Largo Argentina.,

The House/Apartment

The building is behind Sant Andrea Della Valle Church and is old. The apartment was very clean except for the toilet which had a glob of long hair in the bowl. This may have been from the mop when they rinsed it out.

The layout of the apartment is compact. It has a private door which opens directly onto the street. The front door has two windows that you can open and enjoy the outside air. However, anyone walking by could see into the living area. There is a curtain you can pull closed to provide privacy. The apartment was in decent shape. There were some areas of wear and tear and in need of attention. The apartment had a private door directly from the street.

There was no sitting area outside. The street was right up to the door.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was adequate. The living room futon was not comfortable and very dirty if you took the sheet off of it. The dining table was a drop leaf table with two wooden chairs. You would need to pull the table away from the corner of the living room and set it up in the middle of the room. Then you would have difficulty getting around it to go to the bathroom or upstairs or even out the door.

The apartment was clean. There was a heater upstairs in the bedroom.

The bed was large and upstairs in the loft. The bedroom size was small but nice. There was plenty of lighting in the bedroom. There was a built-in wardrobe and dresser that was enough space for clothes and suitcases. The TV was mounted on the wall. There was a small window with shutters that opened onto the street below. The stairs to the bedroom were wooden and quite slick as if polished. This could be dangerous. The bed was about a foot from the stairs. The bed was VERY firm. The pillows were flat. There were not any change of bed linens.

The bathroom was downstairs, which could be an inconvenience. It was tiny and the shower too small for either of us to adequately clean ourselves. There were two waffle towels and two cotton towels that were not fluffy but seemed like they were air dried. There were no washcloths. The water pressure was okay.

The kitchen really was not usable for preparing complete meals. There was a small stove and a microwave and a coffee pot. The fridge was under the counter. There were some pots and pans and utensils and some condiments but the apartment was really not large enough to have dinner in.

Problems or Bonuses

We found the wooden staircase to be dangerous. It was curved and wooden and slick. Sometimes we had to turn sideways to get up and sometimes we had to crawl to get up.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The landlord spoke English well. He was very accurate in his description of the apartment. We paid 300 for four nights.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would not stay here again. I would not recommend this apartment to a friend. The location is great but the apartment is really too small to enjoy. If it was raining one day and we decided to stay in and read or write or cook it was not comfortable to do so. The shower was too small for either of us. We had to squeeze our bodies in and out and if you dropped the soap you had to step outside the shower to pick it up.

The pluses are it is a great location for the center, it is close to a lot of things useful, it is inexpensive.

Things to do in this area

We visited some churches in the area. We went to the TIM store, Internet point, shops and restaurants nearby.
