apartments/rooms on a farm near Castelfranco-Emilia, Modena, Emilia-Romagna WhenSeptember 19 -20, 2002, 2 nights LocationThe location of this rental is south of Modena, north of Bologna. It is a area of small villages with some farm land. The farm is a long walking distance from the town of Castelfranco Emilia. The area is very pretty although not particularily scenic. The farm is made up of a number of out buildings one of which had our apartment and one other. Nearby AmenitiesThe stores are a fair distance from the farm and you would probably choose to drive for groceries etc. The House/ApartmentThe buildings are very old but well maintained. GardenThe grounds surrounding the buildings are large with two ponds, one with swans a swimming, lots of green grass and chairs to sit and relax in. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good shape, lots of room for all to sit including a sitting room near the entrance. The apartment was very clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable with nice linens. The bathroom consisted of the usual including a tub and shower. Lots of towels were provided. An additional bathroom would have been nice. KitchenThe kitchen was a good size. All tools and some food items, oil, vinegar, tea, coffee were provided. The fridge was stocked with bottled water. Counter space was lacking so the table would be needed in preparing a meal. Problems or BonusesOur reason for staying at this farm was to dine at their wonderful restaurant. The adults in our party had an incredible 5 course meal on our last night. This restaurant has been written up in gourmet magazines and has been recommended by many on this board. Well worth travelling to this area. Agency and Representatives (and price)The owner Paola Bini is most welcoming. She does not speak English so communication may be a problem. Rocco, who seems to be a manager, speaks a little English - enough to be understood. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend this rental. It is a nice change from the noise and crowds of the city. The food alone makes this rental a great place to stay. The tranquility of sitting in the quiet with a good book, watching the swans, is an experience I will cherish. Things to do in this areaWe had a wonderful dinner in town our first night at a restaurant called Mate Primeria Pizzeria. My husband still raves about their excellent pasta.
