2bed/1bath apartment in Amalfi, Campania WhenOctober 2008, 1 week LocationThe apartment is in the center of Amalfi and is reached by climbing up many steps that form the narrow streets of Amalfi. The location is residential and the apartment is on the top floor of the building. The location is near the Piazza dei Dogi, the most ancient part of Amalfi. Nearby AmenitiesThere are many bars and good restaurants nearby. There is a grocery store down in the piazza. The bus stop is a short walk as is the harbor. The House/ApartmentThe building is several hundred years old and in good condition. The apartment is spacious and beautiful. It is full of light with many large windows on three sides of the building. There are wonderful views of the sea, harbor and cathedral. The ceilings are very high. The apartment is very quiet and peaceful. No noise at all except for church bells. The other tenants are residents. GardenThere is a private rooftop deck which is reached by climbing a small iron stairway. The deck is very large and well furnished including a large teak table, with an awning over it. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment is spotless. Tile floors throughout. The furniture is in very good condition, many beautiful antique pieces. Lighting is adequate. There is a TV with limited Italian stations. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms are spacious. One of the bedrooms has a small balcony. Both bedrooms have large windows with views and with shutters that can be closed. The beds are firm and comfortable with nice linens. The one bathroom is of average size, very clean with nice tiling. The bathroom has a shower, no tub, plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Lots of towels provided. KitchenThe kitchen is a galley type with four burners and an oven, no microwave, large refrigerator, all appliances in very good condition. Kitchen had adequate pots/pans and nice dishes. Everything very clean with nice cabinetry. Problems or BonusesThere were no problems at all. The apartment was better than the photos on the website. Agency and Representatives (and price)We rented through the owner who also owns the B&B Residenza del Duca. The apartment is not in the same building as the B&B but is nearby. The entire family- father, mother and two grown children work with the properties. They are all very nice, friendly and helpful. The daughter speaks English. They provided us with multiple telephone numbers in case we needed to contact them. We paid €840 for two people for the week. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I recommend this apartment without hesitation. The only qualification is it is only suitable for those who can climb the many stairs to reach the building (via the street), and then the stairs in the building. We plan to return (as soon as possible!) This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
