apartments in the Oltrarno, Florence WhenOctober 2002, 4 nights LocationRight around the corner from Piazza del Carmine. The apartment, ORO was in a low building behind the Palazzo opening out onto a little garden. Extremely quiet for Firenze. Nearby AmenitiesLots of stuff all around. Great caffe at Caffe Ricchi on Piazza Santo Spirito. Many restaurants, including Cavalo Nero next door an Via d'Ardiglione. Ristorante Ricchi has superb seafood at night. Casalingha is a favorite from years back also just off Santo Spirito. The House/ApartmentOld Palazzo in front with a modern addition of 4 apartments on the garden. We only stayed in the modern apartments. GardenNice garden but not particularly romantic or beautiful. Very well kept. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurniture in good shape, bed very nice. Excellent heating and cooling, lots of hot water. Bedrooms/BathroomsVery comfortable bed, big bathroom although the space between the toilette and the shower very tight. KitchenSmall but very good kitchen. No oven but a 4 burner stove with a small refrig. Okay selection of cookware with lousy knives. Small cutting boards. Dishes for 4. No wine glasses. We cooked 4 full meals here with no problem. Problems or BonusesThe street is restricted and very tight. You cannot get a rental car in front of the door. We had to have our cab pick us up at the end of the block to go to the airport. Owners very helpful and nice. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Highly recommended especially given its price and the fact that its in Firenze. About 90 Euro/night makes it a real bargain plus you get to cook with all the wonderful foods you can find in Firenze. Things to do in this areaIt's Firenze. You are around the corner from Santa Maria della Carmine and the Masaccios, Masolino's and Lippi's. Santo Spirito is a short walk, the Pitti just a little farther. The Duomo is 20 minutes at the most. Incredible feel of the neighborhood. These are real residents around you. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
