apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South WhenSeptember 2008, one week LocationCretaiole is a lovely restored farm house close to Pienza. It is located in the Val d'Orcia with lovely views from every apartment. It is very private with an accessible garden, chairs and picnic tables, and beautiful scenery. The area has views that you would see in postcards from Tuscany! Nearby AmenitiesYou would need transportation to get to Pienza or San Quirico for groceries, cappuccino, bread, etc. Many fine restaurants in Pienza. The House/ApartmentThe building is a 14th century, restored farmhouse. Very clean and well maintained. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and plenty of dishes, pots, etc. There are six apartments in the farm house, ranging from two persons to 10 persons per apartment. It is very private and sits far from the road, on a hill, with lovely views. GardenThere is a huge yard with plenty of chairs for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. There is also a play yard for small children and a ping pong table. You can pick vegetables from the garden for your own use. No pool, but would not have used it it there were one. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furnishings were in excellent shape and very comfortable. The apartment was very clean, with staple kitchen items available for our use. There was plenty of seating in the main kitchen area. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedrooms were very nice and the beds were comfortable. There were enough bathrooms for the eight of us to share (two), and they were adequate. KitchenThe kitchen was very usable with enough dishes and pans to cook a meal. Our group prepared an entire meal for a group of 12. Problems or BonusesNo bad surprises. Plenty of good surprises: the excellent sheep cheese, wine, and olive oil produced by the owners, which we could purchase for use while there. Lots of things to do and see in the area, arranged by our host Isabella. Agency and Representatives (and price)Isabella was wonderful and could speak English. It was more than what we had read bout and hoped for. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend Cretaiole without hesitation and would return in heart beat! I would recommend it to any of my friends who are not looking for five-star hotels with all the amenities. If you really want to experience Tuscany in a relaxing and slow-paced atmosphere, this is the place to go. You will find yourself thinking about and craving the beauty, the food, and the people once you return home. Things to do in this areaWe went to the Roman baths in Bagno Vignoni, the towns of Radicofani, Pienza, Sarteano, Montalcino, Monticchiello, and Montelpuciano. We visited La Foce gardens, went to an organic farm for a cooking lesson, dinner at a private monastery, and much more. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
