7bed/6.5bath house near Todi, Umbria

Alla Collina is situated about five minutes from the village of Todi in Umbria. The location is wonderful -- on top of a hill out in the countryside, surrounded by vines and vegetation, views over the hills and across the valley and completely isolated from other buildings.

Nearby Amenities

The nearest grocery stores and restaurants are in Todi which is a five minute drive away.

The House/Apartment

The villa is a dream come true. Everything about the property was perfect for us -- from the huge, well-equipped kitchen with views over the hills and the outdoor organic garden, to the comfortable living areas, entertaining game room and large, spacious bedrooms with comforters and pillows you could disappear into.

There is one bedroom downstairs and the other three are upstairs -- one with its own little balcony off the bathroom, and all spacious and quiet with views from every window and shutters to keep out the sunlight in the morning if you want to sleep in.

The outside area is lovely with varied places to sit. There is a large pool with views over the valley and lounge chairs around it, and a spacious deck off the kitchen where you can sit and have coffee or cocktails in the evening (and watch the brilliant sunsets every night).

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture is excellent and the villa spotless -- plenty of seating and space for everyone and several seating areas to choose from, including a small and very comfortable seating area with TV upstairs between the bedrooms.

The beds and bed linen are wonderful. Comforters and pillows you can sink into and beds that make you not want to get up! Lots of bathrooms since each bedroom has its own private bathroom as well as a small bathroom downstairs off the kitchen.

We spent a great deal of time in the kitchen which was incredibly well equipped with every tool we could think of -- including a pasta machine! It is set up very well with a central marble slab and excellent appliances so that we found ourselves cooking a lot, hanging around the kitchen pouring wine and sitting at the adjoining table while others in our group cooked.

Problems or Bonuses

Everywhere we went were scents of lavender or rosemary from the garden and every evening it took our breath away to watch the sun set over Todi and the surrounding hills.

Our cooking class at the villa with Clara was terrific. Despite not being able to communicate in words, we spent the evening laughing and learning from her cooking skills and enjoyed her tremendous energy in overseeing and assisting us during the week.

Even though there were many wonderful restaurants in the area, our most enjoyable evenings were spent at Alla Collina, cooking together with fresh produce from the garden, drinking local wines, playing the stereo and playing ping pong!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Bob and Alison at Summer's Leases were extremely attentive and helpful every step of the way. They responded quickly to my inquiries, provided additional information such as suggestions about car rentals and transportation preferences, and nearby golf courses and were friendly and hospitable. Being English themselves, there was no communication problem and they kept in touch every step of the way.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely, yes! The quality of everything was top notch and we loved every minute of our week in the villa.

Things to do in this area

Our favourite restaurants included Pizzeria Cavour (incredible and very cheap pizza) and Ristorante Umbria -- both in Todi.

We loved visiting Orvieto (with the most beautiful cathedral I've ever seen) and Fabro is a lovely little neighborhood town to visit.
