Review 3939: Il Poggiolo, Fienile
3bed/2bath apartment near Montevarchi, Tuscany Chianti
Christmas 2008, 8 days
On a beautiful rural hilltop outside of Montevarchi. This is in the Chianti region of Tuscany between Siena and Florence. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
It was a five to 10 minute drive to the nearest Coop. Ten minute drive to Montevarchi which has an IperCoop.
Recently restored old building on a farm. New appliances and a wonderfully stocked kitchen. The only apartment in the building with the owners house next door. Very quiet location.
Outside sitting area not utilized since it was quite chilly at this time of year. Would be nice in the summer to be outside. No pool.
Everything was very clean with nice antiques in the bedrooms. Comfortable sitting areas. Living room and a sun room. In floor heat made it quite cozy.
One bed room with a twin bed and private bath on the main floor. Could put another bed in this room. Upstairs a king bed and a bedroom with two twin beds. A shared bath. In the living room is a day bed.
Very up to date gourmet type kitchen with all the utensils need to prepare anything you would like. We did lots of cooking of typical Tuscan meals. Large kitchen table could seat 8-10. We played lots of cards and games at the table.
Problems or Bonuses
Great location for family or friends. We were a family of five and had a great time exploring the area and just hanging out. Christmas was a nice treat in this area. Very easy drives to sites such as Siena and Assisi. Great running on dirt roads in the area, tried to avoid pavement as roads are narrow and drivers drive fast on these narrow roads.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Sara and Allen were wonderful hosts. Very easy to deal with. Sara met us after midnight to guide us to the location when we had unexpected delayed flights and lost luggage.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would recommend this rental highly and hope to return and stay here in the future. Wonderful if you want a rural Tuscany experience. We found this by looking at reviews on Slow Travel and were not disappointed.
Things to do in this area
Small restaurant in Mercatale and pizza in Bucine. Day trips to Assisi and Siena.
