Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 3964: Agriturismo Cretaiole, Apartment
apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South
7/08, 7 nights
A private farmhouse with six apartments, located 10 minutes from Pienza. Very easy drive to all the beautiful hill towns. Beautiful scenery, quiet and lovely.
Need a car to stay here. Pienza has wonderful restaurants, grocery stores and shops.
House was completely restored ... originally built in the 1400's, our apartment was quiet with a wonderful view. There were seven adults and all were comfortable. No air conditioning but the thick walls and fans kept it OK during the day and was always cool at night.
Courtyard available to all six apartments, flowers everywhere, tables for eating. The vegetable garden was great fun ... guests are able to pick anything they wanted for salads. I've never had such fresh veggies. There are 800 year old olive trees and vineyards.
Furnishing were okay ... beds very comfortable with lovely linens.
Our apt was perfect for the seven of us. Showers were hot all was clean, couldn't ask for more.
Problems or Bonuses
best thing was the family ... Isabella speaks perfect English. She has day trips planned if you'd like that were perfect ... no big city chaos.
We had a medical emergency and she had rescue there and was a huge help with the system.
The most fun is the night all the guests learn to make pici, then we have a pici dinner with the guests and several of Isabella and Carlo's friends. The Italians were so warm and so much fun although none of us could understand the others.
Luciano the owner, about 72 years old, is wonderful; he arrived every night about 11:00pm with a bottle of grappa. We all gathered outside and enjoyed him; he speaks no English but that was no problem.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I chose Cretaiole after reading reviews on the SlowTrav site and it more than lived up to what others said. I booked the room online just dealing with Isbella, no agents needed.
We paid the price on the website; I can't remember it now. We rented a car in Florence and drove to Pienza ... about three hours of highway.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely, we can't wait for the euro to improve; we will go back and stay with the Creataiole. There is so much to see and do there.
Things to do in this area
The tour of the brunello vineyard and lunch prepared by the owners was delightful. Day trips to all the small towns was the most fun. All the trips Isabella arranged were great fun.
